need for dechlor with RO water?

probably a dumb Q, do you need to dechlorinate RO water?

I use sodium thiosulfate for dechlor for pond water changes,...would there be any reason NOT to use the sodium thiosulfate in a salt tank?

I think the DI part of the RO/DI unit is what removes the chlorination. So if you only have RO, yes you will need to dechlorinate. I'm not 100% on that so you may want to get some other opinions.

I have been told by numerous people that the RO process removes all Chlorine and Chloamines. So I would say no, but that's my opinon based on what people have told me.

Try not to put chemicals in your water if possible. It has a tendancy to mess with things like the skimmer.

Hello PHOTOG,

depending on what type of membrane you have, chlorine may damage it. You usually have a carbon filter fitted before the RO membrane to remove chlorine, and DI resin after both to get anything that may have slipped through the membrane (usually ions, hence the name).

If you have a TFC RO membrane you have a carbon block or at least granular carbon cartridge which is what removes the chlorine. Carbon blocks are better as they adsorb more chlorine and volatile chemicals than granular.
