Not to knock your guy, but it is practically impossible to get a fish from the ocean with some sort of parasites. There is a lfs store I frequent that i thought the same thing, till one day he told me that he keeps his salinity around 1.015. And that explains that.

10.15 will not eliminate parastitic infections, most notably ich. It might help reduce the instances of it, but it will not elimiate it........ not even close.....

back ground copper or effective UV and/or ozone will do more than 1.015 s.g.

The thing for an LFS is to get clean fish, and keep them clean...... clean fish usually mean higher price tags...... but in my view are well worth the premium. When you think, the whole point to the tank is to keep fish in it, and the fish (more often than not) are the cheapest element of the system..... why folks choose to go for the "cheap" option is frankly beyond me, when better ,s stronger livestock can be bought at a small premium.....

Matt, did you get that sand out of your tank yet? :D

Not yet Jim - still doing the hypo..... there's about 1/2" sand on the bottom at the moment which is acting as a biofilter at the moment in the ansence of the LR. Meanwhile the LR is "cooking" away nicely. I cannot believethe amount of crap that is coming out of it..... I've done the dunking / swishing / washing cleaning thing 3 times now. BeforeI started today I was expecting there to be very little muck left in it...... there must have been half a pint to a pint of pure sludge in the bottom of the buckets....... unbelieveable!!! So far, I would say it is the best thing I have ever done - I would estimate that since I started doing this that there has been a couple of pounds of sludge, sand and silt come out of the rock..... I actually wish I kept from the start to weigh at the end........

Thanks for the compliments!
I have had the french for about 7 years now. Was about 2" around when I got him. The Maculosus was about 4" long and got him about 4 years ago.
I try to feed at least 2x a day. Krill, Angel Formula, Prime reef flakes, Form 2 flakes, and dried seaweed (from the Sushi counter at a local grocery store)
The French will try to eat anything that hits the water and usually does.

Looks better in person, like the blue background. You need more fish....any ideas on what you might add??? Another Angel???

When I was planning my 240, I added all the wrong fish..... what I did was make a list of the ones I wanted, which as it turns out are the more aggressive ones..... it seemed that I have more room for more fish, so I went ahead and got a yellow tang, a purple tang, a naso tang and half dozen anthias...... with a view to adding the powder blue and emporer angel last......

Now it nearly seems like I have too many fish - at least too many to add any more of th fish that I now would like, namely a pink tail trigger and a pair of semilarvatus, and one or two others......

But I have a nice selection of nice healthy fish now, and while they are not ideal in terms of what I would do if I had the chance again, they are still nice and look well, and are healthy.......

So...... in short..... Water Box's tank looks great, with realtively few fish comapred to some large fish communites, and in my view, it looks all the better for it....... ;)

Incidentally - Water Box - do you find your angels decimate any attempts to install a clean up crew? My duddy had a 6" mac that would hunt down and eat even the biggest snails..... so far my emporer is quite good though - fingers crossed ;)

i agree with matt i like the look of the tank with only a few but very beautiful fish.

water box have you had any problems with the big guys picking on the bicolor.

The French is such a glutton that he tries to eat anything that hits the water...ie my fingers, a fairly large piece of foil I accidently dropped in, and the radiant wrasse I recently tried to add. Apparently maroon and gold looks most delicious. Both of the angels are pigs and the only cleanup crew I have in there right now is a chocolate chip star and I could only assume that most other edible additions would be fair game.

Suprisingly the only real trouble maker in the tank is my Flame Hawk. He has thwarted most small fish additions to include an 6 line wrasse that he torpedoed soon after the wrasse was added(the 6 line looked better in bwoody62's tank anyway).
The Bi-color can be a bit feisty and has it's moments but I have not noticed any aggression from the large angels towards him. All 4 of these fish have been together for a long time and I hesitate to add more tank mates but I really would like to try one more big angel. I will probably just chicken out and get a Niger or another Blue Jaw (most likely a much wiser move.)

Again, THANKS for the positive comments they are much appreciated.

Your very welcome Neil - it is refreshing to see someone enjoying a selected few big, healthy fish in an uncrowded setting, withotu feeling the need to pack every last gallon to capacity.

Incidentally, do you do much by way of maintenance without the clean up crew - your tank seems nice and clean ;)

By the way - how big are they now?
