Need help/Advice - maroons/eggs/sad bta

Hello all!

Well Ive had some issues lately, and Ive been driving myself crazy trying to 'fix' it.. to no avail, nothing seems wrong.

Perameters are in perfect stable shape (Ive had the tank 2 yrs, perfect means just about perfect) ;)

r/o is reading 5 on the tds meter, salinitys stable, good skimmer , new bulbs.. (2- 250 watt mh's, and 2 t5's over a 90 gallon) etcetc

OK.

My maroons have been laying eggs. This is theyre 5th batch. Theyre home is a rather large green bta. Around 10-14 inches when happy.

The maroons relocated theyre egg laying area a little to the right this time. and ever since my bta is looking like death. They bite the tips like crazy (dident do this the last 4 batches)

I think the nem is dieing.

Im hoping some of you with breeding clowns can help me out on how to resolve this.
The nem still eats silverslides, mouth is tight... I almost thought it was going to split it looked so bad, but nope.. just looks bad.

Ive enclosed some pics. Is this normal? anything I can do?

heres what its looked like since the eggs were laid. (its usually huge)

I had the same issue with your clone in my tank TOURKID. It was fine and tripled in size in what, six months? It then looked like absolute death (even worse than yours) for almost a month. Now it's back to expanding again. It's not back to it's glory, but I have yet to figure out why it went through a bad period. Absolutely no other issues in any of my systems during that period.

:( Im hoping after the eggs are gone they will stop biting all the tips. It seems like they are trying to keep the nem off the eggs so maybe it will have a 2 week recovery time b4 they lay eggs agian.

maroons are sooo mean lol

hey TOURKID sorry about that

you werent around when my BTA finally split it happened just as yours did looked big for a couple months then 12 hours later i had 2

i kept them next to eachother now when one deflates or something they hide in the other its cool

sorry about your nem i think it will come back if the maroons get off the chip

Id rather lose the nem than put my breeding clowns at risk. I hope to start trying to raise fry in a few months. only place the clowns could go is in a hospital tank, no good.

My spawning maroon clowns are in a 300gal tank filled with rose anemones, several 24+" in diameter. The clowns STILL occasionally push/pull/nudge anemones near where they lay their eggs to the point the anemone deflates and hangs there with spagetti like tentacles. The anemone then gets a break and a chance to recover since the clowns just move into adjacent anemones. So, given a chance to recover, your anemone will be fine. If the activity/abuse continues to the point that the anemone remains contracted for several days/week I'd certainly recommend you do something to separate the clowns from the anemone.

My maroons have adjusted to a number of changes in the tank, including major changes to the rock stack, with very little interruption in their spawning cycle.

If you intend on breeding them and raising the larvae, you'll be better served by moving them to a dedicated tank, breeding tiles, etc. A pair if well acclimated maroons are just about bullet proof and can tolerate the move.

Lots of reasons, breeders don't keep their pairs in community/reef tanks.

puter- it doesent remain completely deflated, its tenicles have water in them, its just like the disk refuses to inflate or stretch out. I fed it today, it took a long time to eat it, but i think its maybe because its foot is so scrunched together.

If it doesent recover once the eggs hatch and before the next ones are laid Ill take some action i guess.

The female is hanging out in the other anem alot more since its more accomidating to her size now, the male is just being really nippy towards the green bta...
Ive put this nem through hell in the two years ive had it (just your basic newbie mistakes) I cant see how this could be its downfafll now :(

traveller.... Ive been thinking about that alot lately. I just got the 90 gal up in february, but i really am concidering 2 40 gallons or somthing like that instead... have em side by side under the 4 ft light and connected to the sump. Im not sure, that'll be a large battle with the spouse :D I showed him a few pics of proper fry / rasieing tanks, he was not excited lol
