I am looking for something different to put in my tank. I have a 70g reef and was looking for some ideas on what kind of fish I could get. I dont want fish that you can get everyday at LFS. I came across a goby and a wrasse that looked different than any other (as far as color). I started thinking I would try and find something different. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What ecological niche are you trying to fill in your tank? What size / diet do you want?
I am wanting something smaller I guess, under 4'' I am not looking for anything real exotic just something that you cant bye everyday at the FLS. What do you mean diet? I do not want anything high maintenance. I hope all I have to feed my fish are some flakes and little shrimp every now and then. Thanks

There's nothing low maintenance in reef keeping. If you don't have thousands of dollars to spend on this over the course of the first year, you're just fooling around, and will quit / kill all of your animals. This applies, even if you have nothing but a hand full of 3 dollar damsel fish. That said.
I have a Hector's Goby, who is lovely, but just grazes the algae in the tank.
Clown Gobies are small and pretty and eat a basic diet. Many of them die for mysterious reasons, though.
Blennies are fun, but can bully some other fish.
Cardinal fish are a cheap, ecologically sound and easy to care for fish.
DO NOT GET ANY MANDARIN OR SKOOTER BLENNY! No matter what the dealer tells you, these are advanced fish for people with lots of experience and resources.

OK, thanks for the input .I have a 125g reef that has been setup for over two years and a nano reef setup. I do have a little experience with saltwater. I have no skimmer and add no chemicals to my tank all I do is water changes. (never had a single problem) I consider that to be low maintenance. mandarin, skooter blenny, cardinal are all things I can get any day of the week at LFS. I dont spend thousands of dollars either not sure what you mean by all of that but thanks

I think that he means you should spend most of your money up front during the setup and maturation phase of your aquarium. I have spent much money on my aquarium during the early phases but I wouldn't consider it thousands of dollars.

check out the Diver's Den section of Live Aquaria; they have all sorts of unique fish that range from reasonable to ridiculous in terms of pricing, you can surely find something there that would fit the bill.

I've always thought it may be interesting and different to take a 70 gal or larger and stock it with nano fish, nothing larger than a fire fish or sand sifting goby. I love my Trimma gobies and Yasha with shrimp that I have in my 30, and just wonder what a bigger tank would look like. Or a whole bunch of nano fish and then a Flame angel as the show fish. I wonder if my boyfriend will let me try this with the empty 110......... :lol:

Thanks. The bellus angels are not aggressive and you can get 2 females and 1 may turn into a male.
Here's a short clip and you can see their calm nature and please excuse the the wiring mess behind the tank as I'm still working on bringing it back down to the bsmt.

I usually see them for $90-120 for the female and it cost more for the male. Not cheap but it's a very cool fish you don't see everywhere.
