I am sorry to say but it wont last to long. This is Chromodoris magnifica and its a sponge predator. Nudibranch are pretty much impossible to take care of in our tanks as they only eat very specific types of food like a particular sponge or coral. I would return it and recommend they stop selling them as they are beautiful creature that should be left in the ocean.

+1

Also they only eat 1 or 2 species of sponges, which, are impossible to find unless you can go collect half a million yourself or observe the specimen eating one. Never purchase a nudibranch unless it's in Aplysia, Dolabella, or Elysia. Or just anything pretty in general as they are all diet specific.

The ones you listed aren't nudibranchs, they are opisthobranchs which arent diet specific like nudibranch.

Thanks dr. & calap...
mr/mrs chromodoris magnifica is back @ the LFS! Store credit on file, lol. I finally listen to my gut...

Why do lfs sell stuff that they know will die? Anything that results in angry customers can't be good for business. Like when they sell you useless crap(like a skilter) just to get a sale. Or when they sell you a 30 gallon aquarium and a tang. Or when they tell a customer to buy some calc, alk, and ph additives when they have no test kit and the customer crashes their system. That person is gonna realize they can't trust the store, finally do some research, start ordering stuff off the internet, and never come to the lfs for anything but maybe some livestock and salt.

LFS tend to "pretend" to be unknowledgable to make a quick buck. Alot of lfs also pay commission making the employees more pressured to sell whatever they can.

It's also easy to come up with the excuse; "You're water quality was off" or "You didn't acclimate properly" to get out of having to refund something.. or just flat out not offer a guarentee at all, when the real reason was the customer didn't know what they bought was specialized and shouldn't have been collected in the first place.

Then there's the simplist of reasons.. they personally aren't aware of anything they're doing most of the time. coughpetco

Besides, they are the ones sellings the animals.. shouldn't they know everything about them? Well that's exactly what customers assume, trust them, and discover it's the complete opposite.

^ Exactly. Its is sad though because Nudibranchs are some of the most beautiful creatures in the ocean. which is why they sell so good which in turn makes the lfs buy more
