Need help, losing all sps corals

What test did you use? I was runnign 8 dkh according to salifert but only 6.5 when checked against api. When I bumped it up to 10 according to salifert I saw a huge improvement in all my corals.

I used a salifert and a tropic marin test. Both measured right around 8 multiple times.

Any update cchase231.

I ended up switching salts, using reefcrystals now. I have been doing 5gallon changes a couple times per week and have done two 15 gallon changes the past two weekends. Things are looking much better now, recession of tissue has stopped on all corals and is now starting to fill in on some of them. I wish I would have known it was this simple a couple months ago, could have saved some nice corals.

Just a salt change? Wow. Awesome you fixed it. How long had you been using RSCP? How often were your water changes with it?

I had been using it for a little over 2 years IIRC and for the last 6 months I just couldn't figure out what was goin on. I had been changing water with it weekly and the occasional large water change on the weekend, on average probably 50 gallons per month but couldn't get things to bounce back. After a large change with the reefcrystals and a healthy dose of potassion things started looking noticably better in less than a week. Things are goin great now (again) some of the corals havn't finished healing in the areas with tissue loss, but some have completely rebounded.

I wonder about how diff each bucket is myself if you don't have a resevoir to mix the whole bucket at once to ensure the proper ratios of the bucket's total content....

This is why the aquavitro salt doesn't appeal to me. Those numbers are on the entire bucket, not scoop to scoop.

Watch your alk ! drop your alk down a little, just went thru the same thing with a friend a while back all of his alk kits were off and with a low nutrient system the sps dont like high alk he lost alot of sps , I run my alk just about 8dkh or a little under could not be happier .

I had a slight issue with this exact same thing while ago. Turned out that My nitrate test kits were both faulty and giving me low readings. I never experienced brown out, and just had a slow to moderate tissue loss starting at the tips.

I switched test kits, and got on a strict water change ritual, and all is good now.

I hope that you left the "dead" corals in the tank. I left a few of mine in with the intention of growing encrusting monti's over the skeletons, and several are coming back now. In fact, the poci came back and now has bright green flesh.

Glad to hear things are turning around for you:)

I had all my tests double and triple checked by the lfs and I even bought a few new ones for myself, all the tests were coming up consistently normal. I always keep my alk at 8. My nitrates were at 15 and still are, even with things looking much better now. I didn't leave all the dead corals in there, some were absolutely gone with no signs of tissue left. A couple that had a slight amount of tissue were left in there and are starting to come back. There could be something else going on beyond just the salt change, but i'm pretty certain not with anything I can test for. I am changing a little more water now, but my tank was looking great for a long time on my old schedule and things just started slowly degrading. I wish I had a solid concrete explanation, but at least it is headed in the right direction now.
