Need help planning

Need A little help planning a upgrade. I have officially convinced my wife to upgrade the tank. we have decided on a 110 Gallon 48 X 18 X 30 she loves the size or 120 48 X 24 X 32. I was first going to buy used didn't find something I like. Now I am thinking on just building it. where can I get cut glass? Or should I just find a tank and make the furniture? what to do? then there's the issue of my current tank. I finally got all my water parameters good and the refugium growing; what do I do with my corals and fish when I am done and I need to transfer to new tank since I am adding a lot of water do I have to cycle again? I am using my cured rocks about 120 pounds but new sand 5 inches. should I sell all my corals and start from scratch or nothing would happened to my corals and keep them. May I have some advice from some of you who have upgraded your tank size.

I have upgraded. Just keep your current tank as is until the new system has completed a cycle from scratch. You can fill the new tank with new base rock, a piece or two of new live rock, and new salt water. Cycle it with a couple deli shrimp, and dont rush it. It may take a few weeks, but your tank will be healthier for it. Just leave however much room you need to take as much of the rock from your old system once the cycle is complete. You could even use any of your old rocks to seed the new tank, as long as they have no coral on them, and you dont take away too much rock from the old tank.

As for building......if its a common size, I say just buy pre-built. If you want something that isnt standard, you could build.....though that would make me nervous, but thats just me. Or if you want custom, consider reefsavvy to do the building for you. If you decide you want to build, find some good local glass shops to cut you some pieces to size, and do LOTS of research on building technique, proper STRUCTURAL silicone (not GE silicone from home depot), and how to size the glass thickness for the size you want.

Lastly, good luck! Upgrades are fun!

Nope...120G is 48" X 24" X 24"

What is the plan for this tank? IMO if you are planing a reef you should go with a more shallow tank.

But if you really like these dimensions, you have to look for a used Oceanic 140G 48" X 24" X 29"

Okay I got the tank after talking to a few people about the 110 gallon I settled on a 90 gallon. Now this is the part I need help in I have several pieces of coral which I don't want to get rid off in my 55. so can I migrate from a 55 to a 90 in the same day without any issues with the coral? or should I find someone to house my corals until my new tank settles?

now my wife gave my old tank to my nephew and she say's I need to do this transfer on Saturday. so give me luck and I hope i don't damage any of my corals. here is a pic of before.

okay I have done my transfer, and everything went okay. I want to thank Manny at aquarama in miami without his help everything will be dead; being his IT guy pays off. I got some pics of the egg crate and pvc for the bottom of the sand bed. It cost me some money but I got 3'' of sand bed so I am happy. nothing died and once the lights came on everything opened up and looks good. it is still a little foggy and I need to get a new mogul MH light; going with the 250w phoenix 14,000k. Thank you to all the people in FMAS for your help and advice!!!!!
