Guys, saying my tank build has been tough is being kind...its been a nightmare. Currently, my tank is full of sw and LR/LS, my sump is filled with water except for the last section (return section). I had numerous problems getting the bulkhead to not leak and finally I switched to a bigger bulkhead with a gasket on both sides and no more leaks (when I had only one gasket on the inside it leaked a slow steady stream). Then I turned on the whole system and I noticed water accumulating again outside the return section by my pump (mag drive 7/external) and I am now freaking out again. I looked and noticed that the PVC coupling above the pump was leaking so I patched it with PVC cement and let it dry hoping it wouldn't leak... so while I was waiting I saw water still leaking now coming from the pump (looks like its out of one of the screw that hold it together). I removed the water in the return section and took out my leaky pump.

I will return the faulty pump (don't rub it in Thesaent14...I feel an "I told you so" coming).

Buy a new pump... Where can I get a Panworld or some other real good pump locally?? Whos got a large stock of good quality pumps (about 7-800gph)

I would really like to have a professional come and look over my system and check it for any problems to have some piece of mind. If anyone on here does this type of work and would be willing to come by and give me an estimate to look over my established system please pm me your number.

I need some piece of mind and right now I don't have it.

Andy, you're terrible! The guy needs help and you give him Iron Maiden?!

Ghstrider...you could try calling the LFS in your area. I know of a couple of guys up here in West Palm that are great, but I don't think they'd go all the way to Miami. Quite a few of the LFS either do tank maintenance themselves or they can refer you to someone who does. I know that EcoReef in Ft. Lauderdale does a maintenance service, but I don't know if they'd go to Miami.

Hope this helps!

Buddy give martha and Ricky a call at aquariumart 67th and 40th.
Either him personally or one of his servie guys should be able to swing over as a service call and take a look at your problem.

TheChief, Im in Miami (kendall area) but i work on miami beach. I have a friend who does maintenance for a LFS who is trying to help me now and i think that bychanging the pump I'll be much better off. I think he's bringing a Little Giant model 2mdqx which should resolve my problem. We tried and Iwaki 30 but it didnt fit. I'll post tonight if i resolved it.

fwiw, be careful not to overtighten bulkheads. Overtightening the bulkhead could cause the gasket to push away from where it should be seated, and leak. They should only be hand-tight and not need a tool to put on or remove. Also, no silicone on the gasket either!

also, is there teflon tape on the threads (if any) coming out of the pump?

hate to point out the obvious but its gotta be ruled out

Well, i re-did some of the plumbing ( more or less same design) to my new pump (Little Giant 2mdqx-sc) and it is working. Because the pump is higher than the bulkhead fitting by about 1/2 inch, the pump is on a slight tilt forward in order to get it to hook up to the bulkhead (i had to position the pump on a 1" piece of wood that is part of my stand (rear outline rail of stand). I think this was causing the bulkhead to pull upward in the direction of the pump just a bit and it leaked a drop here and there. so i then tightened the bulkhead with the bulkhead wrench that comes with the overflow kit. This stopped the leak and it hasnt leaked for a few hours so i think im in the clear.

Now, I want to cut some of the mooden rail off so the pump will sit flush with the bulkhead and eliminate the tilt and any future leaks. The space is very limited (1'x1') but maybe a dremel or some tool that is small would work. any suggestions?? Is anyone local (kendall/westchester) that could help out?? I dont have any saws that i can use to get in there. Will post pics soon.

Besides these setbacks, my system is online now and i think once i properly position my Little Giant it will all be good...thank heavens!
