Need Help with AGA Overflow Please!!!

Ok, setup my 55 AGA last night. The problem I'm having is with the Overflow Accesory Setup. I have it all hooked up according to directions. I have the overflow running down and splitting between the sump/refugium controlled by a ball valve above the refugium. The problem I am having is it sounds like there is tons of air being sucked through the overflow piping. I am running 1" piping throughout. At my refugium location which with the ball valve open is a straight down 2" pipe, with it open fully and all water going to my refugium I am getting a ton of air, and gurgling from all the air. With the ball valve half way closed I get tons of air at both the refugium and the sump.

Would putting a 1" to like 3/4 or 1/2" reducer help get rid of all the air? Or is there another problem?

Thanks in advance!!

I don't know if this will help, but on my overflow, which is a kinda messed up design, I have a ball-valve right below it. If I shut it a little bit so that the water doesn't just rush straight in, I get no air sound, however, that limits the water flow, and right now, my return pump has more flow than my overflow, So I'm having to watch it carefully until I can get another overflow.

Fortunately my flow is about perfectly equal, so I may be able to insert a ball valve above the t.

Have you tried the Durso or Stockman stand pipes? They can limit the noise quite well. The stockman get's my vote... I use it and it works fine. Most of the noise in my system is now from the skimmer and the outflow of the drain into the sump. I can silence both with filter socks, but would prefer not to use them.

wouldnt restrict the overflow water(if you have one overflow), if anything plugs it up some, you're gonna have a flood
