Need help with aiptasia fast!!!!

Mine originally didn't eat aptasia. The quarantine with no other food taught them to eat aptasia. I have an 8' tank and the back wall was covered (who looked back there?). I got a dozen and they learned to eat them but they couldn't keep up. I had 30 already in the tank but those were spoiled and never got the training.

This may be bc there was nothing else to eat. I've had several peppermints and they never ate any aipstasia far as I could tell in my display

Quite possibly. I'm a novice. But use the advice from one two of my fav LFS's. Worked like a charm. Lost them both 2 months after a bad house and tank move.

I do remember them being active during feeding times, so maybe not.

Had the same discussion on here or r2r about sea hares and hair algae. I had a pretty good infestation of hair algae, seemed to happen overnight. Put a sea hair in and watched him eat it all lol

I had a few a couple weeks ago. I used boiling water in a turkey baster. Worked great and I haven't seen any more yet. A couple that were hard to get at took a second application. They shrink up and hide so the next day you have to see if they survived then go after them again.
I tried peppermint shrimp first and the emerald crabs had a $20 feast.

I did lose two very small peppermints, maybe my emerald ate them

Where in Ontario are you? I might know of some decent LFS.

With aiptasia, I blast mine with boiling water and then suck them up. Works fantastic.

Aptasia is common.
Once you have aptasia, you will always have it.

We call it a pest but its not that bad, worry about infections that kill fish over night.

Once you have aptasia it is best to use natural population control.

If you dont have LPS corals get a matted file fish.

If you have LPS, go to reeftopia.com, purchase 30 peppermint shrimp and watch aptasia dissappear for a year or two, in the display tank and assuming your tank can sustain inverts.

I'm no expert but I have seen BEAUTIFUL tanks get completely overrun with aptasia. Once you know what you are looking at, it is annoying and unsightly. I guess this is just preference (regarding the aesthetics of aptasia) but aptasia will sting your coral. That is 100% fact. Peppermint shrimp...oh peppermint shrimp..it's a largely discussed topic on RC and in personal experience and hearing other reefer's experiences I can at the very least tell you that it's no guarantee. Possibly even dangerous to some corals (From what I have read. I'll find it and post if anyone wants to fact check me on that). One thing is certain, though. Once aptasia enters your tank...it is there to stay. When aptasia feel the slightest bit threatened, they release hundreds (I think) of "spores" into the water column.

Aiptasia X from Red Sea works pretty well. I had a few pop up in my tank which I happened to start with dry rock (scratches head) and I was able to nuke them with the Red Sea product.

I had good results with seachem's Aptasia X. But then again I was very aggressive with it and caught the issue early on.

Still, you need a solution. Your solutions vary depending on how bad the aptasia is.

How old is the tank? Corals? 150 gal is big. That means it's harder to handle an outbreak of aptasia. When I dealt with it, it was in a 40 breeder.

Personally, (Short of breaking the tank down and such) I'd remove all infected rock, and scrub completely with some water change water outside of the display tank. Then use of aptasia x to "spot treat" inside any stragglers. But it takes a little fineness. You have to slowly sneak up on the aptasia so that the syringe tip is almost touching the mouth of the aptasia(without it retracting)..... and then...:blown: squirt that aptasia with the fury of 1000 suns. This will prevent it from shooting out all those spores. Be generous, the more the better. Aptasia X wont screw up your params or hurt your corals.

I know some may think this is extreme but I hate the constant battling that comes with aptasia and the constant frustration.

Just my two cents...again, I'm no expert but this is my opinion and experience with aptasia, combined with hours of research on the topic. Hope this helps.

Hmm, sounds like lots of options. I am waiting to see if the ones I injected with vinegar are going to come back. I hope doing it in a separate container helped. I also used a different container to swish the rock around to make sure there wasn't any lingering pieces of aiptasia left. (I hope).

Man, I wish I was in Ottawa still. I knew of an awesome LFS there. Now I'm in Sault Ste. Marie (i.e. middle of no where lol)

Not the few ml to kill aiptasia. Just need to avoid strong flow because whatever it touches, it will burn! But it will melt over time or you can suck it back into the syringe after an hour or so.

Before my copperband, it was my most effective method... But then I got a few hundred on the back wall that I couldn't see mushrooming in the dark and I just said... Xxxx it!
