Definitely an anemone of some sort. Hard to tell though.

Need more info man, where in the world is this beach.
Charleston, SC. Low tide but usually there are only hermits and snails within the rocks. My daughter actually pointed it out. I'm going to take pictures the next time at the beach and post. There's no reef (that I know of) off shore which makes it odd to me. There's a sand bar about 300 yards off shore that catches about 95% of shells and other "beach treasures" but this guy and a couple of his friends made it up to the beach. The other two were pretty attached and I didn't want to harm their foot so I left them. Was lucky with this one because I was able to get the shell he was attached to.

You didn't know what it was...and you took it home and tossed it in your tank? Are you sure you can even legally collect from there?
Considering I have mostly hermits, snails, 2 urchins, and a couple of old clowns, yes...I tossed him the tank. My kids love collecting things from the beach and having it in the tank. I have a tank for fun and I haven't killed anything in 4 years when I started it. And yes, you can have things from our beaches. In fact, multiple people crab and fish there on a daily basis. I was just curious as of the type of anemone it is.
