Hi there. I recently switched from LED + T5 to metal halide. I'm using the lumenbright mini (16x16") reflectors with the newer icecap electronic ballasts and 20k Radium bulbs at 250wattsx2. I have attached a picture of my setup outlined by the tank dimensions. It's a 75 gallon (48"x18"). As you can see, the reflectors take up a lot of real estate, but they are really, really nice. It's worth the space because I can mount them 18" from water and it doesn't touch my water temperature.
My problem is that I want to figure out the best way to get a nice blue sunrise/sunset/moonlight as well as actinic "pop" for when the MH is on. I'd love to use VHO or T5, but as you can see, it would have to be above or below the MH reflector and I'm no sure how effective that would be.
I'm thinking about doing a rapidLED setup in the center and sides of the pendants. I want as much brightness as possible with these LEDs (I will use a controller) so that I can actually get noticeable light while the MH is on. What do you all think?
