i have a used kent RO unit and it is time to replace the bare bones thing at the top.
i dont know what it is and how i replace it?
i also added a deionization canister and i dont know witch deionization cartridge to buy?
mine it old and i want to replace it.
please help i am stumped

The thing at the top is called the membrane. You have to get the correct membrane for your unit. They make different types. I have the Kent Hi-S mebrane for 60GPD so I need the Hi-S membrane. The deionization cartridge you can use basically all you see. The best one is the one that changes color when it needs to be changed. Hope this helps

(Almost) any membrane will fit into the canister. What membrane you buy determins what "kind" of RO filter you have. Just be sure that whatever size membrane you get (30, 60, 60 Hi-S, ...) you get the same size flow restrictor to go with it.

It doesn't matter. The different sizes (gpd) will all fit in that canister. If you want 30 gpd, then get a 30 gpd membrane. If you want 60 gpd, get a 60 gpd membrane. And so on and so forth.

Just the inside. Ask for a replacement membrane (the 60 gpd Hi-S seems to be the most popular lately) and the corresponding flow restrictor.

The flow restrictor is the little plastic insert where the waste water comes out of that top cartridge. Unscrew the connector and you will see a little plastic piece in there. Replace it with the appropriate size.

do you have a link to whear i can get it and the flow restrictor thing? how do i tell if it is the right size?

how long has the membrane lasted????????????? I spoke to Kent and they said unless your water has very high minerals it should be good for 3 years.

I know a couple of guys here on RC that havent changed theirs in 10 years. I'm sure it depends on the quality of the tap water. :)
