just set up calcium reactor over the weekend my PH was 8.1 when the lights are on and 7.9 off now it is 8.45 and drops to 7.9 when lights are off how do I keep it more stable
thanks glenn

Shut the reactor off for a few hours overnight when lights are out. Add a timer. That should stop it from dropping the ph that much.

check your alkalinity - if you water is buffered, it should help lessen the swing.

If the reactor is truely causing it to swing, you may have residual CO2 in the effluent - you could try decreasing your bubble-count; but I would make sure Calcium and Alkalinity are in check before "tweaking" the reactor

i'm a ca rx newbie, but i've read that it is essential to have good circulation at the air/water interface. one method i've read is to drip the effluent into a small container and then have it oveflow into the sump. i've also read about people using small airstones in the small container.

are you using a calcium reactor or a kalkwasser reactor? The kalk reactor will raise the ph in the tank while a calcium reactor will slightly lower the ph in a tank.

Glen ur calcium reactor is not causing the PH to be at 8.4
i think u need to recalibrate ur PH probe.
if im understanding this correct ur PH was all ready at 7.9 & u are now worried about ur PH been 8.4, get this through ur head it's not the reactor, not only did u hook up a reactor but u also hooked up a reefkeeper2 so my guess is it's ur probe , try cleaning it, & dont loose any sleep over it, if ur PH starts to drop to 7.5 7.2 7.1 then yes u have to much CO2 melting media to fast & with that nice reefkeeper u got it will shut the co2 off before it gets that low, dont add anything to try & raise ur PH let ur tank water be for now, some times in the winter month ur PH drops because the water lacks oxygen this might be ur problem.
& i mean this in the nicest way.

UPS sucks

ok this is the deal I recalibrated my ph monitor and it still was reading 8.45. as soon as the lights went out it drop down to7.97

calcium is 420 up from 390 since I put the reactor on and alkalinity is 3.0 stayed the same

you have to keep your effluent ph between 6.5 and 7.0 and set yur alk where you want it when you have that set your calcium ill go where it supposed to be , with my reactor at night time it drops to 7.9 and during the day it goes to 8.1

move ur probe somewhere else see if that helps , there is no way ur PH should drop that fast, something sounds weird , maybe u have a little bit of electric current in ur tank.
when my lights go out my ph drops from 8.4 to 8.1 but it takes hours to do that not right away.

Steve - I'm right with you on the electric current - I've had that happen to me in the past - maybe try isolating your lighting ballasts on another circuit - if you have electronic control of your temperature be sure to check that too.

If it was a normal pH swing, it would take at least an hour or two to drop, if not all night - if it's an instant drop, it's an electrical disturbance (I feel a disturbance of the force  )

problem solved turns out that the powerstrip that comes with the reef keeper 2 was to close to the ballest I moved them over to the left a few inches and the ph droped thanks for everyones help

Jason i'll remember that when u need me to help u DIY something
speaking off u still need some acrylic tube for ur DIY air dryer?
i might just cut it on an angle so it looks ugly ! LMAO

told u it was not the reactor, hope that other ones that are reading this learn a little about reactors.
