Need help with storage tank plumbing...

So I got my storage tanks awhile back and finally going to plumb them. I have the 65 gallon vertical tanks with 1 1/4" output. Went to lowes and got 1 1/4" pipe adapter ( male thread x female slip) and a 1 1/4" - 3/4" bushing so I can go down to 3/4" for my pump.

Well for some reason the threads won't thread into the bulkhead in the tank? Called Norwesco about the tank and said it was a NPT outlet. But regular sch 40 plumbing should fit right ? I see all kinds of storage tanks on here .... what am I doing wrong ?

I've plumbed that exact size with plumbing pieces from lowes. Sounds like you have the right pieces...I'd just make sure the sizes are the actual sizes you need. Don't take for granted the size in the bin at lowes is the actual size.

The plumbing says 1 1/4 on it lol Maybe it's thread to 1 1/2 but says 1 1/4 ?

I'll go back and get one size smaller to make sure.
