Need help witih feeding a scolymia

A friend of mine gave me a scolymia because it wasn't doing well in his tank. I told him I would try to "bring it back to life". The flesh has reseeded alot but still looks good enough to try and save.

I tried feeding it shrimp and pieces of silversides. It would not even extend is tentacles to grab the food.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to bring this thing back to life?

With mine I have to turn off all tank circulation completely so skimmer, return and circulation pumps, put the food so it is sitting right in it, and give it time to sense food, open, take the food in and then close. After its done I turn all of the pumps back on -- can take a good 10 to fifteen minutes. They are a bit slower but mine is the smooth type scoly and the food blows in and then out again if I leave any circulation....

The problem with that for me is, if I leave it alone that long, the fish will come eat it.

I keep my hand in the tank and keep fish and crabs away! When they get used to what you are doing, they get faster. Or make the contraption!

Are you feeding it with all the lights on? I noticed mine swells up more and all the tentacles/feeders come out right after the main lights go off and my actinics are on.
It might be something to look at. I also have less problems when I target feed these at this time as the fish and other inhabitants bother them less if I put their food in at the same time in another part of the tank away from what I`m directly feeding.

I know generalizations are really bad in this hobby, but most of the LPS are most receptive to feeding around dawn, at least the ones I have had. I try to feed after my MH goes off but while the VHO's are still on. The food will still be circulating around when the VHO's go off. This gets food to my fish and my corals all in one shot. Chris
