i think i have a bubble tip anemone growing out of a piece of live rock in my tank. I also notice that the kenya tree that is growing out of it does not look very good could it have stung it and if so how do i get the kenya tree off and move to another rock with out hurting it. Please help i will try to post a pic tonight or tomorrow of what i have

Bubble Tip Anemone out of rock? Need a picture....

Kenya Tree: easy to move if you want. Just pull it off. They are very hard to kill. If you pull it off rubber band it down to the other rock for a few days. Should attach again

If you have any anemone growing out of a rock that you did not purchase special its a 99.9999999999999% chance its a Bad anemone. You need to just kill the anemone before it gets in plauge proportions which can happen faster than you would think. TRUST me even if its looks kinda neat and pretty it will do nothing but cause you heart ach if left unchecked :) You can look up aptasia, tulip anemone and manjos and get some good pics to see if it resembles any of those but either way I would just kill it to be safe.

It is important to know, if you try to remove it, that many anemones will asexually reproduce from tiny remnants that are left behind. This means that instead of 1 anemone, after you pull it, 3 could grow from where the old foot attached. It's also possible that any tiny fragments could float in the tank and settle elsewhere.

FWIW, if you only have one and it is an aiptasia or majano, I'd get a peppermint shrimp or two, which eat them (usually).

kalied20- sent you an email could not get picture to post said file to big any solution to this would be great. Thanks

Here it is:

OK, one question. Is that a piece of Rock that you got from me? If so I would say that is a Ricordia. I had a lot of them in the tank and many multiplied fast. Many of the rocks I pulled out had these on them. If they were on the back or side not getting light then they would turn clear.

Turn the rock so that it is getting a little more light. I think you will be surprised in a couple of weeks. Looks like a green or purple one. Nothing special to keeping them. Just more light than it is getting now.

kalied20-thanks i just could not figure out how to get them to post said they were to big. Yes that is a piece of rock i got from you tree too. Does the tree look okay. Or is something wrong with it. I mean everything else in the tank looks great. The shrooms are awesome. l love looking at them.

another thing if i am going to get it more light i would probably need to move the tree off. You say i can just pull it off and put it somewhere else. Just not sure how to make it hold with a rubber-band .

The Kenya tree looks fine. If you can pinch it right at the base of the tree, right next to the rock, and pull off like you are peeling it off, it should just come right off. Then use a rubber band to hold the base of it down to which ever rock you want it to attach to for a couple of days. Just put the rubber band around the rock if big enough to go around it. Don't make it too tight or it will cut it instead of attaching it.

Moving the tree is not a problem, but I can almost guarantee some of it will regenerate in the exact same spot (any little piece that might get left on the rock will come back with those things). If that's going to be a problem, either use a chisel/straight-slot screwdriver to break the rock underneath of the kenya tree (can be good for re-gluing purposes) or rip the tree off and then take a chisel and just knock off and remnants left behind. If re-growing there won't be a problem, just let it go and you'll have made your first frag.

On the anemone... could definitely be right on the ricordia. That said, Kalied, if you had any hairy green 'shrooms in your tank that is where I would put my money. Usually rics have pretty uniform "bubbles" (i.e., not bumpy and misshapen) and are not arrayed in an "organized" way (in the 2nd picture you can see the bumps on the thing are in radially symmetric rows). It has definitely been starved of light for a bit, but I don't think the appearance would change that much if starved of light. Either way, it doesn't seem like a bad find... I'd just bring it back to the light kind of slow since it is definitely bleached out.

thanks for the help guys i am going to try and move it later tonight and see how that goes. When i am done i am just going to turn that rock on its side so the ric can get the light it needs. Maybe rotate it a bit tonight and some more tomorrow so it does not go to fast.

I did have three really big hairy mushrooms, so could be that too. Either way nice find. A little light and time will tell. But I am sure it is not and Anemone.

I will fix up the pic in a little while. I got to get going to the doctor right now.

okay i finally took the rubber band off. It looks like it help okay. Another question when i clean out the sponges in the back of my nano do i just rinse them in fresh water or what. And what about the bag of carbon or what ever it is. how do i rinse it. I am just trying to get these parameters right but i just cant get the NO3 down below 12.5. Not really high just want 0 any ideas. Thanks
