I forget what they're called, but it's a little filter-feeding worm-thing that lives in a tube. Harmless.

Thanks Betta and Chuck. So I should remove them? What's with that paragraph which says they can multiply quickly and create pavement of the sand bed?

I'd leave it. They're harmless.

Spionid worm. In most cases these are harmless, but there have been reports that they can irritate certain corals.
