Need ideas for club DIY project

I chose the Rio for its inefficiency but it looks like a may have to re-think the plumbing a bit. Actually, since the Rios are nearly incapable of lifting water any distance a pump at the bottom of the sump and the hose going straight up and coming back down to the top of the bottle might be about right.

well, after doing some looking around and seeing tons of new tanks and wants for new tanks around in this area i figured some DIY live rock would be a fairly inexpensive and cheap way to make a few pounds. if rob(underwaterparadise) still has that used sand that would make it even cheaper. i believe i saw a 15 lb bag of sand at petco for 10$. dont hold me to that. im sure i can get a greatly reduced price on portland cement from ace up here.

I really wanted to head down to the MARS mtg last week to see the DIY rock presentation - and to take part in their awesome raffle. Didn't make it however. :( So this type of DIY idea I'm all for. There's lots of links about different ways to do this and I think the key is curing and rinsing time to aid in removing all potential toxins.

This is going to be cool - I hear we should bring old clothes :D

ever since i heard of curing it in the toilet tank i vowed to try this someday. just to say i did. theres tons of DIY rock instructions out there. playwithbob made some i believe. i'll ask him what he did. so if this is good with everyone as a first project, i will start looking at prices of stuff and get it going. probably sometime after the first of the year would be a decent time frame.

I agree... I might be able to help finance the bulk purchases and then have the others pay up for their share of the raw materials.

Never thought of curing it in the T Tank but sounds like a good idea of keeping it fresh and rinsed without any extra work or wasted water. Plus, we would be saving the amount of water that the rock displaces per flush. Sounds like a winner all around.
