Need Ideas, Xenia Issues

Hello,
so I was away for about a month .... and the tank sitter seems to have fed the tank too much a bit ... as result of overfeeding and less water changes, and using tap water, I came back last night to Xenia growing everywhere, even on my SPS ....

the corals [SPS] are still doing fine and color is good, but Xenia also taking over ...

what are my options besides redoing the tank ? Im gonna try to scrape as much as possible on the weekend with water change, but in case someone has any better Ideas, let me know.

thanks.

You might consider using Aiptasia X to gradually kill off the Xenia that you don't want. I haven't tried this yet, but will in the next few weeks as I have a 20 gallon SPS-dominated nano where the Xenia is doing far too well and is taking over.

Water changes and skim as heavy as you can, even add an additional skimmer(becket skimmers are great for this). Skimmers compete directly with Xenia for nutrients. At first just pull the Xenia from the display that is directly effecting your corals. After a week or two or whenever you've created a nutrient deficit, you will start to notice the Xenia looking less healthy, and pulsing slower, this is when you start to slowly remove it from the display. This process will take a while but it will work. I've been keeping Xenia refugiums for over a decade and been through this several times. Now I keep a beckett and a needle wheel skimmer on my system for this very reason. Even though I run skimmer less you never know when you have an OOPS!!! moment. HTH

Use tweezers to peel it off at the bottom. After the peel, toothbrush the remnants away. Get rid of all of it. A weekly attack for around 4 weeks should kill most of it.

Look up mebendazole, you can get it at the pet store and it works great on Xenia, clove polyps and all that annoying stuff
