I am currently doing a report on fish and the size aquariums that they require. I love the sticky about tangs allthow it dose not have quite the info I'm looking for for my report. can someone help me?

personaly I know most all of the fish we keep REALY require more space than we give them. All of the fish i keep in my 55 are small fish most people would think of as Nano fish, nothing larger than a inch1/2. And the same fish will go into my 90gal when completed with a couple of exceptions.

what really lite the flame was when one of my clients bought a naso for his overly stocked (with corral) 45gal DAS system. now I had mod ed it heavely to suport a heavy load, but he did not understand what he bought at a competters store. I confronted him about it in a harsh manor. I asked him if they told him how big it would get he said no. so I showed him one that was not quite full grown he said that he would give it to his frind (another client of mine) and I said it still needed a biger tank. I felt bad about how I talked to him but I did not lose any sleep over it. personaly (my opinion) Naso's or any other uni-tang should only be keped in tanks in excess of 800 gal.

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON PET-CO, PETSMART, OR WALMART!!!!

depending on turnover I may not be allowed back at pet-co.
I was in there looking around and tryed to help someone make the right decission on fish for a 10 gal and when I told them they should not buy 3 Oscars the coustomers complained. I don't know why I was as nice as I could be. even explained bioload, how big they would be in 3 months, and that the filter on their 10 gal kit was no where big enough for one of those fish.
WILL THE ANIMAL CRUELTY EVER STOP!

I know its your own oppinion of what you keep in your tank but sometimes its jest wrong to keep somethings in too small of an eviorment.

after that Rant:

any help on the topic would be apericiated!

Personally---I think it's not just physical size or even adult size within the tank: certain fish [anthias, tangs] have a physical need to move and dash long distances, possibly to ram oxygen into their bloodstreams. Tangs certainly have a very high oxygen requirement.

Certain fish like chromis will kill off the weakest in a small tank, and will adjust the size of the group to their own 'comfort' with the available territory.

If there is no flex in territories, ie, no empty spaces where a fish can navigate without getting nipped, the tank is likewise space-confined, IMHO.

I'm no expert: I've just been doing this a fair long time, and certain lessons were the hard way.

I agree with you: I keep nanofish in a 52.
