Need IP Camera

I need an IP camera to gaze upon my tank when I am away. Zoom would be a nice feature. We frequently go away for weekends and I want to make sure my anemone doesn't croak or start walking. It's a piece of mind thing. I have emergency caretakers I can call if something needs to be done that I can't do from my phone. I have an Apex Jr so if there is a camera that interfaces with that, it would be nice. I plan on viewing the tank via my Droid or my laptop when away.

This is perfect. Thank you. Are the instructions good enough to help me set up port forwarding etc? Do I need another static IP like I use with my Apex (Dyn.DNS)? Does your app work with the Droid X and other Droids?

Just read a review that said :"The box says you can only view still images from a cell phone." I need a camera that will allow movement on my phone.

I am pretty sure smart phones will stream the jpegs fast (phones with modern web browsers). When I was coding for it, this was like 7+ years ago. Smart phones were non existent then. All it would do is send jpegs every 2-3 seconds or so.

you do not need a static ip or any forwarding. panasonic throws in a free dns service i believe.

it's pretty much plug and play, which is why i recommended it.

I like the D-Link Fishgate but I have a linux OS (ubuntu). Will I be able to use the disk wizard and if not will I be able to set it up? It will for sure on my Droid, yes?

+1 on the dlink cameras. I got two that are mydlink capable and for the money I am very pleased with the product. For the life of me I couldn't get them to go wireless but a few feet(more like 50 lol) of cat5 cable I got laying around fixed that.
Now all my co-workers make fun of me for checking my tank all the time.

That is correct Mydlink has an android based as well as iphone app that you can view your cams remotely. I believe it allows up to 8 cams but don't quote me on that . Also the phone app allows you to take snapshots and the cams that I have have 4x zoom. The snapshot is not available when viewing it on your pc thou(or I haven't figured how to do it yet)

FYI I saw the same model as my cam for sale on amazon for $59.99 shipped. regular price is $99. If you are going for Dlink make sure the camera you choose is MyDlink enabled:spin1:

Ok it's all set up but I can only use the IE link on my laptop that it made on setup as the other browsers keep saying I have to download Java even tho' I did. The phone app works so far in the house. Let's see what happens outside wireless (I have no cell signal at home). I am a little disappointed in the quality. The pixellation is bad if I zoom even as little as 2X. At 1x it's almost too far to be of use. But I can see things are swimming and get a general idea of the health of the tank.

D-Link. Works flawlessly on the cell service. I am going to set up an auto feeder and I will be able to see the fish going after the food which will confirm that they eat when I am way.
