I need a new skimmer for my 100g cadlights with a 40g sump. it will be a full out sps tank with a medium to high bioload. I had a atb 840 and sold it thinking it wasn't going to fit with my sump plans and turns out it actually was going to work out

Anyway I have narrowed it down to 3 skimmer:

1.- Bubble king mini 160 or 180

Never had one of these, what's the water level it should be submerged at? Would the 180 be an overkill?

2.-Alpha cone 170.

I had the 200 on my 210g and I loved it. I'm not sure how well the 170 would be on a smaller tank. I love how quiet the red dragon pump was.

3.-ATB 840 V2.0

I bought one of these after selling my alpha 200. The pump was louder than the red dragon, but I'm not sure if it they are actually louder or was it just that one pump that was used?

I really don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices. I agree the Red Dragons are super quiet and the best pumps on the market right now

I was not at all impressed with the BK Mini 160, only mediocre performance comapred to any of the recents I have had like ATB 840, SRO2000, and Skimz 181. If you do get one of the Minis, hold off for them used here and save several hundred bucks.

I have the skimz sk-201 on my heavily stocked 110 and it keeps the nitrates around 20-30's. Trying to get customer service is a pain because their in Singapore. I've emailed them a few times but they don't ever respond. I wish I went with a octopus. Good luck

Yeah I'm definitely leaning towards the 170 since I already had the 200.

How expensive are the pumps to replace? Anyone with a link to how much a pump for the 170 are priced at?

It's actually all coming down to either the atb840 or the alpha 170. The only thing that makes me lean towards the 170 a bit more is their silent red dragon pump
