I just received a new lens in the mail yesterday from B&H. It is a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC Macro. After doing a little initial look over of the lens, I noticed a spot on the front glass element. It is on the inside, and is not dust. it appears to be translucent, but it is very visible to the naked on eye, and near the center of the front glass. I have not had a chance to see if it shows up in pictures or not. Any ideas on what I should? Return...or is it normal for anomalies in the glass?

I don't know for sure, but I would be uncomfortable with a brand new lens that has a spot like that on the inside of the glass. I would think that if it is visible to the naked eye, it would almost have to affect the pictures.... I would probably send it back.

i had a similar quality control problem with my sigma macro lens i bought from b&h back in the spring.

i just couldn't get it to focus. i told them the problem, and they took it back without any questions and sent me a replacement in about a week. the replacement was great.

i've heard rumors that there is a QC issue with allot of the sigma lenses made over seas (the imported ones you see on b&h that are just a tad cheaper).

Mine was an import. Their customer service is amazing though. When I called today they are no questions asked. I told them they were a spot, and the RMA info was emailed to me in minutes. I don't even have to cover return shipping!

Time to start saving up for the 70-200L IS now!!!
