I am having a hard time deciding on fish for my 75 gallon fowler tank. Here is the breakdown of the tank setup so maybe that will help determine my fish that I will list after the tank setup.
Tank Setup:
- 75 gallon with built in corner overflow
- 70 lbs of fiji pink live rock
- 3" sand bed of live fiji pink sand
- 1 korilia 640 gph powerhead
- 30 gallon long sump w/refugium with live sand and rock and algea
- eheim heater
- mag drive 9.5 return pump
- coralife 4 buld 54w each light fixture

Fish that I am intrested in and would like help narrowing the list down for the 75 please...these are just fish that i like and i have checked diff sites and they all have diff tank recommendations so I would like advice from you guys.

Fish I like:
- Flame Angel
- Sunset Butterfly Fish
- One Spot Foxface
- Volitan Lionfish
- Firefish Goby
- Bicolor Blenny
- False Percula Clowns
- Yellow Tang
- Tomini Tang
- Christmas Wrasse
- Blue/Green Chromis
- Humu Trigger
- Snowflake Eel
These are the ones I know I like for sure..I know some may not work but thats why I am asking you guys for opinions and if you know other fish along these lines please let me know. I also have some of the fake coral inserts that are in the tank but can be removed for the little larger fish. I am very good about water changes and maintaining my tank also. Thanks!!

Triggers and lion fish don't mix
Triggers, lion fish, eels will limit what else can go in the tank, so you have to decide if you really want these in your tank. Even if you do want them, I am not sure if they can fit properly into that size tank, so let someone else answer that part of the question. I have never owned any of them.
As for the tangs, yellow tang is probably not a good fit for a tank of this size, I would recommend that you go with the tomini tang as your only tang.
Flame angel is a great choice as it brings a different colour to your tank.
Firefish are great, I currently have a Helfrichi which is my favourite and I have two fire gobies. If you are willing to spend the money, go with the Helfrichi

As for the rest of your list, I am sure others will give their input, good luck

Sorry I do have a skimmer. A aqua c remora skimmer. Forgot that in my setup in first post. Any other opinions on fish?? Will any of what I listed work well?

Humus get very large & aggressive. Volitans get very large as well.
You might want to decide if you're after an aggressive tank (triggers, lions, and eels) or a more peaceful tank with more fish.
If you go aggressive, i'd go for a smaller trigger, a smaller eel, and a dwarf lion & maybe the Tomini. That would pretty much be it as the lion & eel may make meals of smaller, peaceful fish.
If you want more fish, I'd do a small flasher wrasse harem (3), a couple of your choice of cardinal if you can miraculously get a male/female pair LOL or a pair of chromis (they usually pick the extras to death), the angel, firefish, and the goby, and maybe some kind of bottom-dwelling goby like an orange-spotted.

So If I do a aggressive tank will these fish have to be relocated after they grow or can they stay in the tank with no issues? If so which ones? Also what lion? I can't decide if I want aggressive or peaceful lol.

I personally won't put anything in my tanks that will have to be removed later. Catching fish is not easy, nor fun; neither is getting way less than they're worth at an LFS or trying to find someone who can house them properly. I love Niger triggers, but I won't ever get one because it won't even work in our 140 LOL.

Here's some dwarf lionfish. Be aware that they're really inactive & mostly just sit around LOL. The guy that got me into this hobby was really disappointed when he got his & it just sat there, doing nothing, all day. Then it ate some of his other fish.

Yea I had a fuzzy lion for a while..kinda boring but look cool lol. I really like sunset buttery fish. It says on live aquaria min tank size is 70 gallons. What about my 2 firefish, bi color blenny, 2 false perc clowns, tomini tang, sunset butterfly and a sand sifting goby and maybe cardinal fish and a wrasse?

Actually, only the first two of the lionfish you mentioned are dwarf species. The P. antennata and the P. mombassae are "medium-bodied" lionfish and grow larger than the dwarves.

IME, when lionfish are under-tanked, they tend to perch more, as they have nowhere to swim, or they may be intimidated by raucous tankmates. Additionally, we don't own a single lionfish that isn't out front to greet us when we're in the room (of course, they're hoping for a handout!).

Yellowtang,

I'd be looking at a dwarf or medium-bodied lionfish for a 75, as mentioned. I'd say that a Mombasa might hold up better to some of your other fish choices, and I'd be sure the lion is established (eating and weaned) before you mix in any other fishes.

Also, as mentioned, "reef" triggers and lions hardly ever mix well, altho the planktonic-feeding triggers, particularly Xanthichthys or Melichthys generally work OK. Other families you'll want to avoid are large species angelfish and puffers.

If you'd like to read more about lionfishes, here's a good primer:

Lionfish Care Guide

The article is missing one of the medium lions, P. sphex, as we didn't own one at the time it was written...here's a couple of pics of our specimen:

Wow! Thanks for the info! What fish would be good e ought to mix with the Mombasa lion? I def want one of those, a flame angel and others.

IMHO/IME, the lion should be established and weaned first. It's probably the most docile fish on your list.

P. sphex is a pretty rare find here on the mainland. It's one of the two lionfish species indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands (the other being D. barberi), but I did want to include it as a possibility. It's a really great fish.

We're currently keeping our D. barberi in the same tank as our Mombasa, along with an Inimicus stingfish. There was a bit of what seemed to be male-male aggression on the part of the barberi, but that seems to have calmed down with a bit of "training", which amounted to us showing ourselves all "puffed up" to the barberi, letting it know there are bigger fish in its world. Sounds silly, but it worked well.

So he should go first then? I have a 10 gal qt tank setup but would that be to small for a Mombasa? If I did the Mombasa lion could I still have my tomini tang and flame angel? Maybe 1 more fish?
