i started another thread about putting molding around my in the wall tank at my new house and have decided to let the trimmers just do it, i need some pictures of how people have done theres and liked it, or if you have a opening on the top pictures of the cabinets would be great also, i left 9 inches on top open for from access but now have to decide on how i want the doors to look like...mine is a 125 gallon
thanks jeff

my entire problem is how do others have there in-the-wall tanks framed, as mine sits now the tank is flush with the framming and the drywall stick out 1/2 from the tank, this is why i am having trim issues, is this how most people do it or is there some way of getting the tank right on the wall flush. i was thinking of just extending 3/4 plywood to do that but i'm not sure if that could hold the weight of the fromt of the tank since it would sit 1/2 out with no header under it and the weight of the tank would bend the wood even if it 1/2 and leave no real support on the front

No pics right now.. but I set the tank back about 3/4 with a gap on both sides and top of about 1". I built a frame to inset into the opening. The frame is thick enough to be flush with the drywall and it's dimesnions cover the trim on the top and bottom as well as the gaps on the sides. To this frame I attached standard finger molding and plinth blocks with clamps and glue. The result is a "picture frame that fits into the opening snuggly with trim that is flush against the wall with it's back side flush against the tank.

I can remove the "frame" if the tank ever needs to come out, as it will not fit easily through the fishrooms pocket door.
