need pump

I just bought a mag7 and i think it was give or take around $75 bucks. Not as cheap as some stuff but when it comes to needing flow in my tank, well, I bought it before the old pump expired so at least I wasn't in an emergency situation.

i'd been wanting one for a while so i could have a spare pump on hand just in case i did need one and the old one is a junky ebay no brand type.

Sorry I can't be of more help but I just wanted to say that if you can afford to have an extra return on hand it comes in handy for those middle of the night emergencies.. they'll happen eventually hah just gotta be prepared.

Good ole murphey's law.

If you want an external pump, I've got an older Little Giant lying around... it's an awesome return pump. Might be too much for your needs, but a great little pump.

thanks ben i bought a rio 2100 from ebay tonight. hey danielle how much flow is the pump rated for? im looking for something more than 1800 gph to run my closed loop. my mag 18 is to loud for my taste.

I have a feeling you are not going to be happy with your rio. They are not very good pumps to say the least.

"Pumps 692 gph at 0 foot of head. Pumps 667 gph at 1 foot of head. Pumps 375 gph at 4 feet of head. Pumps 200 at 6 feet of head."

Hope this helps you. Good luck.

I dont know. I ran a rio for a long time and never had a problem. I used 1 as a return and 3 of them as power heads in my 150 and in a year and half never had a problem with them. Never serviced them either. So I think there good pumps just not very powerfull

i dont nessesarily need too much power just want it to match my pump for the berlin skimmer. i think flow is an issue as im pushing 1800 gph thru my closed loop.

its only a 60gal cube

i agree with bluecarpet that the pumps are not that great. the main thing that happens is that the cermaic shaft wears on them. and i've seen a magnet exploded on one. but i've had shafts and magnet issues on mag's before also. but the mag7's are a dime a dozen and would recommend to buy one and use the rio that you just got as a backup. and i thing mrs. smith had a little giant 3 or 4. would not get you what you want for a closed loop. and if noise is a issue go with a snapper or dart. 200.00 at the door is probaly what you will pay and they are much quiter than mag's my 125 was run on all mag pumps with 2-24's 1-12 2-7's and my meter outside was sceaming. so keep that in mind when looking for a mag pump.

ohh the tank is setup.. i have been running the mag 18 for a little bit now.

but will soon be upgrading to a snapper.

ill give the rio a run

i run a rio 2500 on my berlin skimmer, i might swap the 2. and run the 2500 as the return and 2100 on the skimmer.. we will test both out and see.
