need some flow help

Hi,

I recently picked up a 22g finnex tank, gutted it, and placed a SCWD powered by a Via Aqua 600 GPH pump in the back compartment. I drilled a hole in the partition opposite to the stock return and plumped that with locline.

The flow is unfortunately a lot less than I expected. I'd say I'm getting maybe 300 gph from each side when fully opened up. I've been unable to find a more powerful submersible pump that will fit in the 4" wide compartment and be attachable to the SCWD inches above.

I really like the side to side action, but am worried this is not gona be enough flow for SPS and keeping algae in line. Do you think I ought to replace the SCWD with a T fitting? Does anyone know of a better pump? Other ideas? Thanks.

There are lots of pros and cons with SCWD and ofcourse the flow reduction. One option is to ditch the SCWD for a T fitting and use a simple wave timer if you want the alternating outflow. Or, use a bigger pump/small powerhead.

you do know that mag drive pumps are fully submersible correct? try a mag 2 or 3 that should do the trick for you

Yes, mag 2 is only 250gph, mag 3 only 350 gph. Both being < 600. Mag 7s and up are too big.
