Been awhile since I have been on here, but making a come back in the reef world so I'll be around a lot more lol. But I have a new issue/ help I need from you guys. My girlfriend wants a new camera and is on the hunt for one. Now this camera will be used for her blogging, pictures, and videos, maybe I can even use it for my tank lol. She will be purchasing a 600W 5500k ring light to use as well for her lighting when doing her videos for her blog and channel. She was looking at getting the Cannon T5i as one she is new to these types cameras and heard great things about it. Her help aka mine is what other lenses should I look at getting for her? It comes with a 18-55 lense but I know zip on this stuff so I don't know what's a good lense for what she needs. Any input I appreciate a lot!

I remember you!!!! For the close-ups you see here and for the blog and videos Canon's 100mm macro would be the best.

How's it going Misled?? Yea I've been gone for sometime, a lot of stuff happened with my life, mostly damn surgeries that took up most of my life but I'm good now! Ok so the 100mm lense would be the best lense for videos and good pictures. I'm thinking she is going be doing a lot more videos then pictures, I'll be the one trying to use it for pictures mostly, so her focus is on the best lense for her videos, if your saying the 100mm then awesome time for me to look to get one! How do you feel about the Cannon T5i?

I shoot the Nikon side, so I don't know the bodies well. Someone else will chime in and give you some info sooner or later. Welcome back!!!

You probably know, but make sure she gets the Canon STM lenses if available for smoother, quieter video shooting.

Lol I didn't know! I'm a complete noob to the photo world! I will pass that info to her though! Anyone with Cannon experience and can vouch if the T5i would be good for her?

There's nothing wrong with that body but she should actually handle any camera in her price range before buying it. You can't buy a new DSLR that isn't a good camera these days.

That said, I've been shooting Canon for years but my next new body will be a Sony mirrorless.

Doug is your hunger for the Sony simply because Canon hasn't made a mirrorless back with an EF mount? Think they ever will?

Nah. I'd actually prefer a real viewfinder (that's why the mirror is there), it's the sensor.

What sold me on Sony was seeing Canon release the new 5D with 50mp and the same pathetic dynamic range. They're playing the consumer, who just assumes more is better, and ignoring the market. My pro friends, who are all shooting Sony now, can get at least THREE more stops of range out of a frame than I can on any of my Canon's. That's huge.

Add a Metabones adapter and I can even use my Canon glass.....it's a no brainer. All at half the size and a quarter of the weight.

Thanks for the input everyone! The gf was liking the T5i a lot so she ended up buying that with a tripod and some other stuff.
