So here is my situation. My new tank that I was suppose to have up and running by the aquarium expo is not going to happen. Still waiting on the rock and then i will have to let it cycle. The rock should be here the week of the meeting. I am wanting to get a few SPS's at this put my lighting is not sufficient enough to handle them until my tank is running. So what I am needing is someone that might be wiling to hold a few frags for me until i can handle them. Thanks guys.

Make sure you find someone with a stable tank of course. If they too have a SPS dominated tank would help. I dont mind helping you out but be reminded if you lose your frags in someones tank its not their fault. I know someone who is doing it now and thats their understanding. How many frags do you plan on getting ? How long before you think your tank will be up and running ?

Just an unsolicited "letter of experience"

Frag swaps can be the Bane when some people are starting out, by spending money on living corals they are not ready for.

Personal opinion only. "Take it slow" If you are going to go with SPS especially you need some time for your tank to stabalize and settle in before you start adding SPS, most "long term" succesfull people with this hobby will tell you to wait "months" before you add SPS. This is a hobby you can enjoy for a lifetime, slow down and "enjoy the ride" you will be happier in the long run and you will not have spent your money on something you are not ready for.

There will be plenty of frag swaps in the future, and by then you will have had time to assimilate your tank and know what you need to fit in what spaces for your real needs.

I know of several people at our Memphis swap that spent a lot of money on frags they were not ready for to have them die off.

SPS can be a challenge and a great deal of money can be spent and "wasted" when right now it sounds like you should be spendng that money on some Live rock and getting your tank up and running and get it through the cycle.

You have a great club here in Middle tennessee and I assure you that you will have plenty of available frags, "When you are truly ready for them"

Good luck with your new set up!!

Justin, I will be happy to do that, if you can't get anyone closer to you, as I live in Murfreesboro. I should have some room after the swap.

Hmmmm I agree with Ducklabdad. It was early when I read your post and didnt put as much thought in it as I should have. I would hold off aswell and enjoy some other corals before going SPS all the way. I would suggest some cap corals to start off with and go from there. The caps are pretty cheap and are quick growers not to mention alot of bang for your buck when it comes to size and color in your tank. Just some more advice. I also would have a good skimmer on my tank and steady water parameters for several months before I added the SPS too.

I may just hold off on the SPS even though i have been at this for about 9 months the tank i am starting up will not be at all real stable at first. Did not really think about the tank being new and not as ballanced as a older one.

Hey you could throw them in there and they be just fine but, you would be risking it. Im the kind of person I dont like to see things die if I can help it. Youll be up and running in no time. Im sure there will be plenty of cool frags of LPS,Zoas,Shrooms etc. I am setting up a tank now just for those.

Yeah i don't like to see things die either. So i have already reserved some shrooms, zoas, acans, and some other softies. Maybe by the time i get up and running some of the frags from the swap will have growm some for me to get a frag or two.
