Need some help

I have read mixed opinions on the moon light - some say it makes it more natural for the fish - I say they are just pretty :)

Actually, his corals are pretty hardy on their own - the fish, if already stressed from shippment, disease, etc, could be affected more by small problems in water quality.

Also, the tap water has a LOT of trace elements that the RO/DI takes care of. These trace elements can have a more profound affect on the biology of the fish than the corals - just removing the chlorine is not enough IMO.

Wouldn't the inverts be more affected by water quality than the damsels?

I think everyone has hit on a lot of good suggestions.

The only other thing I can think of is food poisoning.

Did you feed all the fish the same food?

You might try an inexpensive fish (damsel), just one and try a new food.

Be sure not to overfeed, and wait.

Yes, but I am not sure that typical water quality is the culprit (as he said that the params read ok during tests), but rather the trace elements of the tap water (metals, etc). Also, this would be magnified if the fish came in stressed or diseased...

Well i am deffinetly going to get a RODI system and I think I'll try a new food. Any recomendations? If that doesn't work than I guess I'll wait about a month to get some more fish. Also do i Need fish in my tank? or can everything survive without them? Maybe I sould just go without them for a lil while.

There are a lot of people selling used RO/DI systems here and there, but beware that old filters should be replaced and the $$ could add up to the cost of a new system.

I remember someone posted a vendor source for a new one around here not too far back - a great systme for $100 if I remember correctly.

I would consider just buying the RO/DI from a LFS (they even mix the salt sometimes) for a bit to see how things are and throw in a coupl eof damsels again. Start with 100% (or close) new water for a fresh start. You can also try a local supermarket for water from what I am told. Either way, you should not be looking at more than about $5 / month in water cost.

You don't have to have fish, although if you decide to add some later and your live sand has "died", you will need to go through a whole new cycle process again, which some corals will not appreciate (SPS love VERY clean water).
