Need some info about Mag12.

I was wondering what peoples experiences were with the mag 12s. I was thinking about buying one but wanted to hear from those who have it first.

I have a 20L with a 5g sump that I want to use it on. It would be submersed in the sump and connected to a ball valve for flow control. I have a lot of 90 degree elbows and then on top of that, it splits into 2 outlets. Do you think this would be enough flow for an sps tank?

How much heat does it output?
How loud does it get?

Thank you everyone.

Way to big...I got one on the sump of my 75... kinda loud. For example I got water hammering when using 3/4" with one 90 deg. A mag 12 will turn your 20L into an insane wave box.. I recomend a mag 5 or 7 tops.

I used the MAG12 on my previous 150g tank as the return pump from my sump. It put out decent flow for my LPS and lone SPS. I didn't need to add any other powerheads or pumps.

can anyone suggest a pump then for my tank? I need one that can't be wider than 5 inches as the pump chamber of my tank is that wide.

Also, since my return is split into 2 and I have about 10 90 degree elbows all together, what kind of pump should I get for good SPS flow?

Thanks.

Ok. After some research, I'm thinking about the QuietOne 4000. Any advice about this pump? You think I could get away with just the pump and no powerheads? Thanks everyone.

Ocean Runner pumps dont even hum. I sometimes think to myself if the power is out?

Plus they run on very low wattage.

Why all the 90 degree fittings. It will make what ever pump you get work harder, so it will generate more heat and use more eletricity. Have you considered using spa flex instead.

Its hard to just do a return pump for flow. Youll need a device like OM4way, wavyseas, or some tweaked out plumbing with more than 2 outputs.

How big is your tank?

Mag12 on a 5g sump...YIKES. Your overflow will cause a serious problem with aggitation and microbubbles. Plus that pump will make such a small body of water too hot. Try a smaller pump for return Mag2 maybe. Then put a mag7 as a closed loop. Thats still over 40x turnover.

Wow. Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with a quietone pump and then drill some extra holes and use a CL for the flow. Thanks again everyone.

I forgot really... I bought 6 feet and it was like around 6-8 bux with tax.

If anything it was $1.25 but call them up and ask to make sure they have some in stock. You can also find all the cool hard to get plumbing instead of ordering from Marine Depot.

I also know that HD and Lowes sell the spa flex line depending on the store it will be with the sprinkler section or the plumbing section.

Oh that's perfect then. Will they know if I call it spaflex? Or does it go by some other name? Also, Spaflex will plumb into elbows and t's right?

Haha hells no they wont. More than half the people at HD dont have a clue what they are doing. I cant let my Dad go in there by himself, he almost took some guys head off the other day.

Usually in the sprinkler section like Mario said. Up on top in huge rolls.

Oh wow. Ok. Thanks. So when plumbing Spaflex, does it work in the same way as normal hard plumbing say for "T"s or elbows?
