Since I set up my reef, I'd had 250-watt CoralView 14,000K single-ended bulbs on it. For higher PAR, I changed over to 10,000K German-made Hamiltons and the color-rendition was fine....nice an white/blue. The problem I ran into though, was that after going through seven...yeah, seven....of the 10,000K Hamiltons....six were defective and only one continues to work. So, I finally tired of trying to get another Hamilton to work and I replaced the second bulb with a German-made Ushio 10,000K. It's, IMO, absolutely awful in its color rendition. It's amazing how different it is from the Hamilton. The Ushio's a strong yellow in appearance and it distorts the color of the coral under it. I don't want to take a chance on buying another bulb to replace the Ushio made by still another companty, that's going to also have this yellow-caste like the Ushio has.
So...what I'd like some advice on is...what's a good single-ended 250-watt bulb...preferably in the 10,000K to say, 12,000K (for the higher PAR than the 14,000Ks give)...other than Hamilton...that won't have a yellow appearance? THANKS for the help on this.
