Need some thoughts quick!!!

Ok...I bought a beautiful Copperband Butterfly on Saturday. Obviously today is Thursday...he has been doing fine, no issues (never seen anyone go anywhere near him). Today I get home and low and behold his tail is missing...he is banged up pretty good. I was shocked since I didn't see anyone bother him at all for 5 days.

Now...my question is, what do I do? Do I let him see if he can make it or should I remove him? I don't have a quarantine tank...ugh!

I guess I am asking if I should leave him because maybe this was a one time scuffle and they just needed to work out some territory issues...but he is not looking good.

If I should remove him, who is willing to take a $75 large CBB until I can figure out what to do with him?!? Any takers for a holder tank (of course has to be very local, it would be good to remove him tonight if I have to do it).

Please let me know!!!

He was still ok this morning...

I fed the tank well, even though they were all sleeping (I think).

Tank mates are:
Foxface - good size - 6" (never shown aggression)
Blue Jaw Trigger - good size - 6" (never shown aggression)
LMB - big too...but I doubt he could do much damage...

The thing that gets me is I have watched this tank a lot in the last 5 days and not once have I seen anyone go after him...it is like they knew I wasn't watching.

My suspicion is the Foxface...I think if the Blue Jaw wanted to tear him apart he would have. The Foxface I think would be more prone to nipping...even though I have never seen him do it.

Anyway..I am going to see if he is still alive when I get home...if he is we'll see if he is worse off, if so I'll get him out.

If someone wants to buy him and he makes it, I'll make a deal.

Carol...if he is looking more beat up...I'll bring him over tonight.

I was secretly hoping that this was a quick territory war and they would leave him alone...so far so good...

It would be a good idea to treat the copperband with a light treatment of melafix. It will aid in the healing of the fins and assist in keeping the fish free of any bacterial infections due to the open skin.
You could also add a light pimafix treatment. to cover the fungus issues..

Just got home a few minutes ago...looked everywhere for him...couldn't find him...

Looked behind the tank, in crevices, the sump, the overflows...everywhere...except...

My anemone...and what do I see...a long butterfly snout sticking out. My guess is he passed this afternoon...and floated into the anemone. Ugh...what a huge bummer.

Well, I am really kinda feeling like I am not going to be able to put anymore fish in the tank. I guess that is ok, but it is kinda a bummer. I hate killing a beautiful fish like that...not a good feeling. Should have taken it out last night...but I was afraid I would stress it more...ugh. Feel pretty guilty...
