need source-lighting parts for diy

I'm about to do an extensive lighting rebuild. Currently have (2) 150 watt double ended 14k Mh in homemade fixtures. I made the housings last year out of galvanized sheet metal with glass covers covers cut to size from lowes. The sheet metal lost to the salt creep and are falling apart. Anyone know if housings without bulbs are available? How about just some good reflective non corrosive metal? Maybe that pitted stuff I see? Also, how about some glass that wont crack every month? Keep in mind I am cheap, but handy. I also want to add a 3rd light in the center, same specs but a bit more actinic. There is a brace along the top of the tank. Will this be a problem for the heat of the light. They are about 5" above this brace. Thanks in advance for the input.

Good to see you're back.

Check out hello lights they're usually a good source of DIY parts. Also, most DIY canopies are built into wooden canopies.

Sheetmetal is expensive in ss or aluminum.

Thanks Matt. I always feel welcome here, and not embarrased by my lack of knowledge. Do you know of any DIY wood plans? Thanks Again, mike.

There are many, and while I hate to say "do a search" which is a cop out answer, there are a ton of canopies in the DIY section.

Feel free to stop by and check out my canopy if you wish. It's not exactly what you are looking for but it could be a start.

Thanks for the info. Hello had just the thing, 30 buck each with sockets and UV glass. I'll check around for better pricing, but that sounds fair. Thanks for the heads up. I will let you know when I can stop by to see the lighting and grab some anthellia. Is that at your house or at the school. Correct me if I am wrong but you are a teacher? Thanks again, mike.

I've seen people in the diy forum use double ended out door lights from home depot or similar store do the job. Don't have any links for you, sorry. If you send or post some pics of what you would like to do I might be able to help you out with a set of plans.

The anthellia is at my parents' house in the remains of my 55 system. I will set it aside for you, or in the chance that it doesn't make it, I'll give you some form my display. PM me when you want to come over and I'll give you my phone number.
