need sump (serious this time)

last time i was looking for a sump, i backed out becuase i didn't have room for it. well now i have a new stand with some room in it. i need a sump that will fit in a 11W x 26L x 16H space in the stand. i was considering a rubbermaid tote lol, unless someone on here has a better solution..

oh yea i also need an overflow. one that hopefully will be silent

I spent a lot on my sump, I just bought a pre-built one. But for the best overflow box, well it's what people on RC say; check out: http://www.lifereef.com/siphon.html

I have a siphon box kind of like that (got it at Fewells and it's less expensive), I have stopped my return pump 5 times to test it and it hasn't lost siphon yet (knock on wood). I think I will get a float switch just to be safe. I will put the floar switch in the sump so if it get to low it will shut the return pump off. That way my tank doesn't overflow and my pump doesn't burn up.

Anyway, the lifereef box you can buy something called an aqausilencer, which he told me wouldn't work on my box, so I kinda wish I got the lifereef box, but there are other ways to make my box quiet I just am lazy.
 
I have the tank and overflow that I used in that stand, but you might have to trade me something for them Steve. Come by and I'll fix you up. Sorry I couldn't visit yesterday, but as you could see, I was very busy.
 
I'll sell you my overflow box, but I'd have to buy the lifereef box first, then you'd have to come swap them for me cause it's a pain in the @$#, but I'd give it to you cheap for doing the work.

And yes I am serious.
 
Drill the tank, it's the best solution. Go Calfo style. I have a 5" Calfo style on my 180. Feel free to come out and see it anytime.
 
I have an SOS overflow form my 55g still (only in my tank to hold my mangroves in place till they get their roots down) - I'll get rid of it for CHEAP after I get a new overflow and sump (next week probably).
 
tim - i'll swing by today after i get out of school and check it out. I'm out around 2 and about 30 minute drive to your lot

honestly, i'd love to drill, but i dont know anything about it, i dont have time, and i wouldn't even know where to start and cost etc etc...
 
I'm probably going to worry about drilling when i upgrade to a larger tank. this 55 really isn't worth drilling to me. When i get a 125 or more, then i'll drill for sure.

can you acheive SOME of the extra surface skimming the calfo-style overflow acheives by using multiple HOB overflows? If they were to dump into the same sump, could your return be off of one BIG pump?
 
yes steve that would work the same. Calfo is nice because it is pulling more off the surface than with several overflows. And it looks better. The calfo style is A LOT quieter.
 
Plus, you have to make sure you get everything exactly right w/multiple and exactly level or you could have some problems. If an overflow ever failed to lose suction, you'd be in for it! Even though it's a 55 I'd still drill. It'd just take a couple holes and bam, you'd be done. Be sure if you use the multiple that you might use an aqualifter pump. Good luck!
