Need to Borrow some 5 gallon Buckets

Hey everyone. I recently moved to Maryland Heights and my dad's been watching the tank during my absence.

This week.......Thursday or Sunday. I'll be moving the tank to the new place.

I need to borrow about 5 or 6 five gallon buckets to move everything over. I'm willing to come and pick up the buckets and I'll return them within the next few days after.

Thanks!

How easy would that be to move?

I was just going to place everything (fish, water, rocks) all into buckets and place coral into seperate containers.

Would that probably be the easiest way?

well if you have a truck and pump one big tank would be easier, but with a car and no pump , buckets would be easier.
Since you are moving a smaller tank, buckets might work better, but for bigger tanks , the storage tanks are the way to go.
If you decide you want it,let me know and I will bring it to the store.

Thanks for the offer, I'm thinking I'll be going with about 5 buckets full. I'll be treating this like a nice size water change. I'll kepp probably 20 gallons of the water already in the tank and put in 10 gallons of new water.

styrofoam coolers? I'd be afraid that they're not deep enough to keep the water from splashing too much. But I'll look into that.

ever heard of lids for the coolerS?

if you are afraid of too much splashing for the corals and fish, just think of it as a hurricane.

what are you going to do about the sand bed? i have heard that it is very bad to move them and disturb them. you may want to only keep a little bit to seed new sand in your tank

Thanks Kurt. YGPM now.

Yes, Matt. I've heard the same thing. I'm going to be leaving just about an inch of water above the sand and move it.

Quick question, is it a bad idea to add sand to the sand bed during the move? Say I want to add another inch of sand to the tank. Any problems with this?

I have about 4-5 buckets (instant ocean) and some coralife buckets that I don't use. You can have them. I live in North County and Work Downtown. Let me know if you want them and where you would like to pick them up from.

Jeff, if you want I have a 65 gallon water storage tank you can borrow with a valve on it.

Hey that might work good for me!!! I have to move about 335lb of live rock when I move... On coral and fish I plan on putting them in coolers till I move everything.. But that would work great for all the rock..

Lonnie, I would use those 55 gallon barrels Kurt has of mine. They have air tight seals.

Kurt how many buckets do you have of mine now?

Did you ever move JX?

I'm moving tomorrow.

I can't get ahold of Kurt though. He didn't leave me a number and he hasn't read my latest PM. So, I may have to figure out another route to move this water.

worst case Wal-Mart has cheap buckets and in different colors too. :eek2: I will see if I can get a hold of him.

Jx if you are moving it from Spanish Lake I PM'ed you my Cell # 2 days ago. I am less than 10 minutes from Spanish Lake, if that. Check your PM's and call me if you want the buckets. You can come by and pick them up tonight or tomorrow. I normally get in between 6-6:30pm.

Just want to thank beapeams and Arsenal for the buckets. I'd also like to thank everyone else that offered to help. I think the tank move was a success. Things are a little cloudy right now, but are looking good.

No casualties and only one minor inury. I got a nice little electrical shock.

On a good note, I found a new RBTA. It split a while back I guess and it's been hiding out somewhere.
