Need to force split Gbta. Help?

I have a GBTA that is approximately 18" in diameter when fully extended.
I had it on an island with a RBTA, and life was good. It was far enough away
from everything else, and right next to where everyone could see it.

Four days ago, it decided that it wanted to go for a walk...It has been all
over the tank. This morning it decided to go for the Coast2Coast...Lucky
the foot was still in the tank.

My thoughts are that if it was smaller, it couldn't reach from the island to
the back of the tank to walk around. Right now the "foot" is huge and can
span the 6" from the island to the back without a problem.

Any ideas on how to make it split? I have read of people taking a knife to
them...not for me. I'm squeamish when it comes to my tank.

I had a RBTA that was about 14" that I needed to get to split. If you do 50%-60% water change it will stress it out and likely cause it to split. Not for sure but its the best way to attempt to get it to split on its own. Mine ended up splitting into three, it was pretty cool. It didnt split until about 36 hours after the water change.

Overfeeding is the safest IMO, maybe feed 2-3x a week.
Only thing is if they REALLY want to move, they can just release and float, so this may not cure all.

I had one go crazy and start splitting repeatedly. Only after some closer monitoring I noticed my heater wasn't functioning and the tank temp would dip to around 74 degrees at night and peak at 80 degrees daytime. I replaced the heater and it never split again. Just a thought.

Regular feeding for a couple of weeks and then a 50% water change seems to do the trick for me if it's happy and healthy to begin wwith. Not sure why it's wandering though.....
