My son has a 35g hex that is being over run by some grapevine, it is groing in and around his button polyps and he is afraid that if he pulls it off it will remove the button along with it. Any suggestions would be appreiciated. Thanks

Just yank away. The caulerpa should seperate without pulling off any button polyps, as it will be attached to the rock and not the polyps ;)

getting rid of grapevine (grape caluerpa)

Shawn,

boy I had the EXACT same problem a few months ago in my 90 gallon reef tank...the grapevine stuff was growing all over my liverock around corals and into and intertwining throughout my button polyps and such. I would rip it out by the handfuls, and it wouldn't bother or pull out the polyps...but to just be safe, I always found the runners and pulled those out rather than grabbing the stuff by the stalks that grow up off the runner.

Also..my tank is NOW free and clear of any and all of it..I bought a yellow tang and a foxface rabbitfish....you should have seen the stomach on these two fish the first couple weeks..you could actually see round "bumps" in their expanded stomachs they ate so much of this. Well, they loved it, and ate it all. my tank does not have one vine, branch or clump of the stuff left. It looks really good. But now I have to feed them more, because they dont' have any grapevine left. Oh well.

HTH
Dan
