Need to remove large carpet anemone

Hi..I've had this carpet for about 5 yrs now and I love it. However, I started to loose fishs over the last few months and now I think it's becasue of the carpet. It's housing my two clowns so it breaks my heart to have to remove him but it's getting to a point where I'm afriad it's gonna hurt more of my other fishes. What's the best way to remove him? I read about the ice method and tried that without success. I palced the ice on top of him and to the foot without sucess. Over the last day, he moved more closer to the front glass. I don't want to break my reef down just to remove him. I also read about the credit card method and would like to avoid hurting him as well. Any ideas?

This is similar to the thread I started recently and I am not having much luck figuring out the best way to remove anemones from their foot hold.

What is yours attached to?

How long did you place the ice next to its foot? Was it in a bag so the ice wasnt touching him directly?

if it is attached to glass, the best way to get it up is remove any sand nearby so as not to damage the foot with sand. then using your thumb press down hard against the glass at the side of the foot. while pressing down hard against the glass, slowly slide your thumb across the surface of the glass toward the center of the foot. the goal is to push down hard on the glass while causing the side of the foot to release. as you get a small portion of the foot to release. stop. lift your thumb and then work on another portion of the foot slowly and carefully. the idea is to get to the foot to release just a little bit at a time. this whole thing can take 20 minutes for a carpet. take your time. you may want to use some protection from the sting. it tends to get you pretty good on the inside of your arm which can be sensitive. i have removed hundreds of anems in this fashion and it is the only way recommended.

if it is attached to rocks then the only way is to lift the rock out of the water and wait for the anem to start to dry a little. it will then release on its own. this can take up to a few hours.

It's attached to a bottom glass. I did placed the ice in a bag and placed the bag of ice toward the foot, inside and next to it with much sucess. I think I'm gonna give up for now until one day if I have to break the tank down for a move than I'll try what hogfish said below.

Hogfish- thank you for the advice!
