Ok so I have power compact lights in my pfo lighting system hood however I really do not like the look they give off. It has 2x 250 watt MH and 2x 96 watt pc lights the hood altogether is 48" hood. its only about 1 1/2 years old. I don't know what to do I want to keep the MH but I want the crazy blues you get from LED. Should I retro fit in some sort of LED and if so any suggestions????? Or should I just sell the whole hood and start from scratch. Any and all help would be superb lol. THANKS.

How about attaching a reef brite strip to the front of the light?

you could build them in strips, off of rapid led and u channel.

That would be my suggestion. Pull out the PC lamps and their ballasts and endcaps, and mount a pair of U-channel strips in the unit in place of the PC lamps. Put a Meanwell ELN 60-48 or comparable inventronics driver somewhere in your stand/hood and put 7 royal blue XT-E LEDs on each piece of U-channel, for a total of 14 LEDs. You'll get more "pop" than the two PC lamps and only consume about 50w. Hood will be cooler, too... Just make sure the LEDs themselves are protected from splashes/salt spray. If the hood does not have some sort of shield, you could get those clear tubes meant for enclosing T12 florescent lamps (at Home Depot, about $3 each) and slip them over the U channel to provide splash protection. Your heat load will be low enough that you shouldn't be causing thermal problems by doing that. Or you could split the tubes in half and mount them only over the "bottom" of the U channel, leaving the top open.

So Der should 14 all day should do it I was thinking about doing 24. I was gonna do 12 in front and 12 in the back. The xt-e ones all royal blue. ??? will that be to much.

XT-E is available in royal blue and white - we're talking about RB here. :)

If you wanted 24 - go for it. But I don't think you'll need that much. The XT-E can be driven to 1.5A and at higher current 14 of them will more or less produce the same light as 24 typically-driven XP-E royal blues anyways. 14 of them should cost around $50, plus say $50 for a driver and wiring, $25 for misc hardware, and you're out the door for $125.

Of course there's a fair amount of personal preference, and some people might want to blend in other colors or play with more or fewer LEDs...

Yah well when it comes to led's Im no wiz kid so I need all the help i can before I put this order in to Rapid and how long does it take to get your order does anyone know thats ordered from Rapid.

Pretty quick. Stuff that is in stock ships the day (or next day) you order it. So, expect it in 3 or 4 days probably. I've ordered from there a couple times now and will keep ordering from them.

I ordered a 24 LED actinic supplement from Rapid LED last Sunday and they were at my door on Thursday. 24 bulbs puts out a lot of light. I'm gonna use them to replace a couple T-5's. Good luck. - Mark
