Need to verify return flow

How can I check my total return flow? It runs through a chiller that is spec'd for 240-960 GPH. I want to make sure I'm in the range. I though about stopping the return, calculating how much water overflows, then turn it back on and calculate. Any better ideas?

Can you stick a hose on it, route it to a empty gallon jug and time how long it takes to fill the jug up?

Actually, yeah, that would be easy. Just stick the bottle the sump and shut off the ATO temporarily. Thanks!
