I have a new, tank-raised ocellaris. I would like to get him an artificial anemone, I have heard that they will often host them. (I do not have all of the lighting or equipment necessary to maintain a live anemone)
Can anybody suggest what type of artificial would be best? Short, long, carpet, etc? Does anybody know of a good, realistic brand?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about putting anything in there. In due time, it will eventually host in something. That's just what clownfish due. If you are looking for a really cheap artificial anemone, you can get a Koosh ball at some place like WalMart, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar General, etc; cut out anything that might be in the middle like a colorful light emitter, and then wrap the rest of it around a rock so it will sink.

I'm going for someting realistic here, don't want to look at a koosh ball in my tank with all of my liverock, etc. The clown already hosts in a corner of my tank at night, but I would like it to look more natural.
I would like to have a living anenome, but don't have the right equipment, so I am trying to do the next best thing.

Sometimes these guys will host in other corals. I've heard of people having luck with toadstool leathers. Ours hosted in anthellia before we got a nem (the anthellia didn't like it much).

Don't know where to get the artificial ones, a petstore maybe?

A SMALL CLAY FLOWER POT WORKS WELL AND CAN BE HIDDEN WITHIN SOME LIVE ROCK. IF YOU HAVE A PAIR, THEY'LL LAY EGGS IN THE CLAY POT TOO.

Again, thank you for the input... but you're all missing the point - I want an artificial anemone, because it is realistic looking.
What type would the clownfish most likely host? Long or short tentacle?

Thanks.

I don't think yours will be picky over long or short tentacle, that would probably be your preference. Our ocell.'s have hosted our mag float as well as our anthellia. Now they hang out in an H. crispa (it has long tentacles).
