There's a minor outbreak of green sea lettuce algae in my tank. They look like sea ulva and tend to grow on bare rock surfaces and around the base rock of small sps frags. It doesn't seem to hurt the coral, but it's starting to spread more rapidly.

They look alot like this picture:

Any idea of how to control this ulva like algae.

I've got a purple tang and he shows no interest in this algae or any algae unfortunately...adding another tang is out of the question cause he's super aggressive toward any new tang.
Snails eat them slowly and it looks like I may need massive numbers to keep them at bay.

Has anyone overcome this type of algae with lights out method before? For how long?

Manual removal, and let the snails hold it back if they are in fact eating it.

Also I heard that sea hares might not be allowed in CA for import anymore, I'm hoping that was a rumor that turns out to not be true but knowing the state wouldn't surprise me.

If that's true it's a VERY new law. I bought a couple from Aquatic Collection about 2 months ago.

I've got one a couple months ago and he's my #1 CUC and now over 6" with a fat bottom. But even after he cleans up the area, it only takes a couple days for the sea lettuce to grow right back. Meanwhile he'll loose interest and spends his time cleaning the glass ignoring the sea letttuce.

Sounds like I just need to beef up my CUC and get a bigger team as suggested. Thanks!
