Nem ID and help.

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to the hobby, had my tank up and running for about 4 months now. Everything has been going great, all my water conditions have been spot on, I regularly check and keep a close eye on things. I have a 55 gallon tank with roughly sixty pounds of live rock and have gone about slowly adding things over the course of the last two months. First was some crabs and snails, waited a couple weeks to make sure everything was good, then I've add three firefish and a yellow wrasse. Water conditions still remain great. I eventually wanted to get a BTA for clowns to host. I went to my LFS and he suggested this Nem would also be a good choice for me, and I decided to give him a try. He told me it's a hectaractis but didn't specify what kind, after researching it looks to me like the crispa. Can anyone clarify it for me from the picture and how does his health look? From the moment I put him in he has stayed in the same spot and embedded himself in the sand against two rocks. Being new to Nems, how do you go about feeding him, whats the best kind of food etc. Thanks for any advice.

In the sand.? Might be a M.Doreensis. Take a picture of the stem n vaccuae if you can.

Since I took that first picture, I tried feeding him a bit of shrimp. Don't ask me why but he started getting on the move, here is a picture of him moving. Should of went with my gut instinct and wait for a BTA, hopefully not too difficult of a Nem.

Also, he didn't really bother with the piece of shrimp. What would he do when hungry, grab the shrimp with his tentacles and hold on tight? His mouth was a open which is why I thought I would try a piece

Red foot points to M. Doreensis.

Open mouth doesn't mean it's hungry, anemone mouths should be closed tight most of the time. You don't really need to feed anemones.

This is a M. doreensis. He need to have a sand bed to live in. Won't be happy until he bury his column in the sand.

Ok thanks guys. The Nem is hunkering back down in the sand. Only third day with him. Keeping an eye on my parameters as usual, is there any parameters I should pay extra attention to?

Does not look like you have much of a sand bed. LTA need about 3 inches. Consider put him in a container with sand in it. Either that or return him to the LFS or to another tank with sand.

Thanks for the advice Minh. What I ended up doing was clearing a section of the tank and putting a bit more of a sand bed down, there was two inches, I built it up to three and replaced the live rock. The nem moved around the area a bit and still wasn't settling so I turned the flow right down to see what would happen. Within ten minutes we wedged himself between two rocks and completely buried his foot in the sand. Been there for a couple days now, looks really good. Thanks, Ill post pics later
