Neomeris Consumers?

Hello,

I have always had a few shoots of Neomeris on my liverock but over the last 2 months the population has exploded. It is very difficult to control and the queen conch only nibbles on it. Does anyone have any experience with this algea and/or how to control it?

Thanks,
Ian

Wow that looks really cool! (probably not what you wanted to hear). As far as controlling it goes, I would try manual removal as opposed to relying on a predator to eat it. HTH.

I was going to suggest manual removal and giving it to other aquarists that would like some ;) It is calcerous so finding a predator will be hard. I was thinking urchin but they can often be more trouble than they are worth!

I thought it looked pretty cool too at first. And all my buddies agree but it is sucking out Ca and alk faster than I can replace it. I will post a whole tank shot soon but imagine 3-4 thousand of those things covering your rocks.

 Unfortunately I dont have much advise to offer.. are there a lot of corals or other desirables in the tank too? I was wondering if you could just slow your Ca and alk dosing and see if that discourages new growth of the Neomeris.

Geeze... I don't have much advice either - have you tried a pencil or Royal Urchin. My Royal likes his macro's as much as he like coraline. I can't think of anything else that would eat it.

Maybe setting up a chaeto 'fug to out compete it?

John.

My royal urchin hasnt put any noticable dent in it and it seems to grow back relatively quickly after pruning from the conch. Im hoping more nutrient removal will help as I ordered a new skimmer recently.
