Neon Gobies ::: What to do?

Several weeks ago I noticed that both my neon gobies (they're pretty small) had developed whitish flaking/spots. It showed up on both the very same morning. I captured them (no easy task) and QT'd them for 3 1/2 weeks treating them for what I thought was ick (I treated with 'Copper Power'). The whitish whatever-it-is vanished within 24hrs but I kept them in QT for the whole time. They've been back in the DT and back to their normal routine for about 4 days and this morning the problem is back. I've seen no evidence of anything on any of their tankmates the whole time. It's clearly not ick. Does anyone have a clue what it is and what I can do about it? I'll tell you, the prospect of trying to catch them again is not appealing. I'm quite sure they learned from their last experience.

I't probably ich, however you need to take all of the fish out for no less than 6 weeks in order for the parasites to fully die off in your DT.
Unfortunately I would reccommend catching all of them again and repeat just for a longer time. Also check out the disease board for tips on hyposalinity and copper treatments.

I can't QT my whole tank. I don't have a large enough QT tank. It doesn't look like the pictures of ick I've seen and I can't imagine why they'd get sick so quickly after almost 4 weeks in the copper. I'm kinda stuck on this one.

Ich doesn't flake, ime. I'm a little puzzled by the description. some fish pick up fine sand due to their slime coats, which can look convincingly like ich. if the spots move, it could be that. proper ich is more like a pimple with a white top.

It doesn't look like spots. I wish I could get a good picture or offer a better description. They were completely clean yesterday and tyhis morning first thing they've both got stuff over their entire bodies. It's a combination of spots and what seems like flakes. Not the salt-granule look I've seen in ick photos. Besides, they just came out of an almost 4 week copper treatment. What are the odds they'd be the only two fish to get ick and that it would come back 4 days after treatment? They 'sleep' in tiny holes in the LR. I'm wondering if they're picking something up in there. Somehow I don't think it's ick.

But neon gobies don't have a particularly slimey coat right? My goby picks up sand from time to time, however that's sorta obvious IMHO, and never has caused any alarm, I'm assuming thats not it... but we all know what assuming makes me...

You're right, ich doesn't flake but if the treatment for ich worked, then maybe it is ich-ish.

Possibility of pics?

Bump.......

I have the same issue with a neon goby in QT now.
Same exact thing, looks like flakes or scales stuck to the fish.
I tried a formalin/malachite green dip for 5 minutes then into a freshwater dip for 2 minutes. This did nothing to erase or remove what seems to be hanging scales.
Very strange that we are both from MA.

sounds like it might be flukes (Monogenean Parasites). im have a problem with them as well, tried searching on google but i couldnt find any good info

I'm not so sure it's flukes.
I did a freshwater dip in a glass for about 2-3 minutes and didn't see any fall off.I also did a formalin/malachite green dip for 5 minutes and they're still on the fish.Almost looks like tiny whitish scales hanging off the fish here and there.I would love to get a picture, but it would be extremely difficult.I'm going to set up a 5 gallon and treat it for a week with formalin/malachite.I don't want to ruin my cycled QT with meds.I'll post if anything changes.
I have noticed since the FW dip and F/M dip that the fish is much more active.

Well on further inspection of my Neon Goby I have come to the conclusion that it's Lympho.I have the fish in a 5 gallon with formaline/malachite combo for a few days.I believe the fish was being fed the wrong diet at the LFS.I noticed lots of uneaten mysis in the tank when I purchased this fish.It goes nuts over frozen cyclopeeze.I've been soaking that in Selcon as well.I know there's really no meds for Lympho, but I figured the few days in the combo meds wouldn't hurt.
