anyone have this coral and can you post a pic of it. I have had mother colonies befor and my tank crashed and leaked out . 2 years later I am attempting the hobby again. I have just bought another sinularia neon in type and it is not happy . Not sure why running metal halides 250 se,placement is middle of the tank and the waterflow is med . tried high water flow did not care for it and tried putting the sin at the bottom less light it didn't care for that either . where do you place yours and what are it's likes ? sorry for the long post just getting my feet wet again.:spin2:

I dont have a closeup so hopefully you can see it....ITS HUGE....

An older vid of my neon nepthea. I dont have it atm but do have access to the mother colony, so getting a cutting wouldnt be that difficult.

Here is one I had in my 14g biocube before a crash one hot summer I suspect that the sinularia went first from the heat and poisoned my tank. Happened when i was on vacation for a week , when I came back everything looked like crap and the sinularia was black and decaying.

It was a beautiful coral and looked incredible under actinics . I should try to find another!

Mine is 6 years old, and it split...my profile is old, but the sinularia has doubled this year.. My lights are poor in the 20 g...only 36watts .Branches out about 12 inches, stalk about 4 inches.
I took a 1/2" cutting for my 10 gallon and it has tripled in 6 weeks-(nova extreme), cutting is on the bottom stuck under a rock...looks like it grew arms out reaching for the sky!
I never fed or dosed. My clowns would host in the sinularia. Grows fast, and is cool looking when totally open..

I've been keeping different finger leathers for many years and the care really isn't that hard.
The only thing I feed in the tank are my fish.
They will take any light from pc lighting to mh lighting.
My current 240 has 3x 250 watt mh and 4x160 watt VHO.
I believe they like lots of flow.
And water changes are important.

are they fast growers, is it easy to prune and frag them? Are they easy to remove if need be? I've heard they are among the most toxic. can anyone expand on this?

I'm not sure about how toxic they are. I think that the green sinularias are not as fast a grower as say the brown sinularias. Mostly because I have to move green ones in my tank on occasion because the brown ones will crowd out the green ones.
I haven't had alot of success fragging them. I know that just cutting a branch off can be risky, because the can get this black necrosis type thing going. And once it starts, it's tough to stop. The easiest way is to let them develope a new stalk next to the main stalk and cut that off when it gets thin .
I know they will wilt and fade away faster than others when small, but once they get past a certain size they get strong.
They get damaged easier than others.
Having said this, I'm sure a ton of people will say that I'm all wet, but this is just what I'm saying I've found.

thanks for the pics man i miss my neon sins. by chance any of you guys want to sell me a piece? I have a new tank up and need to get one real neon green sinularia , email me pics and a price to maple357@comcast.net thanks guys.I wonder how big it would have been by now being 12x10 inch 4 years ago now.:sad2:

what do ya do to get them so big? i got one as a 6in frag about 2 1/2 years ago...it died off except one small frag which in the past 1 to 1 1/2 yrs is only 2in tall.....nota lot of extension....i now have it in my frag tank...which i dont think it likes at all...for the time being....

GREAT TANKS by the way......

Here's mine, 150w MH. Three years old.
P4250407.jpg

It was about 1 inch when I got it and I've fragged it about 20 times.

Mine has split and is huge for a 20 gallon(only 36 watts )......I have taken cuttings and placed in my 10 gallon(36 watts and grows fast!)...I do not target feed, they love flow as mine is now reaching up the entire length as a canapy for 1/3 of my tank and shades the mushrooms nicely. They shed once in a while, ball up at night or when harrassed........I do 4 gallon water change weekly on my 20 gallon. My clowns used to host in the sinularia.
Everyone has gorgeous tanks!
Old pic on my profile.
