Neptune Apex Stresses me out.

Im sitting a work and Neptune Apex has crashed and it's not showing up on Fusion. So now Im stressed and thinking the worst until I can leave at lunch and go reboot it.

How does everyone else deal with this type of scenario?

My Apex doesn't crash. If it doesn't show up on Fusion then either there is a power outage or my router stopped working. Only 2 reasons why mine ever stopped.

Luck you. Whatever the issue mine seems to drop from Fusion at least 2x a month. It's probably unhealthy that a stare at it all day a work anyway.

In my experience, the unit itself rarely crashes (as in stops functioning/controlling). Yes, occasionally it drops connection with Fusion, which is annoying, but the system is still running just fine. No reason to panic.

The only time I ever see Apex's drop off from Fusion is when wireless connections are involved. Wireless is far from a reliable connection. What many don't realize is that the Apex functions as a web server and you would never have your web server connected via a wireless connection. Wireless connections rare ever maintain connectivity 24/7. They are prone to loosing connections for a wide range of reasons and interference is a big one. Most Wifi connections use 2.4ghz frequency and in a typical home, there are many other devices that share that frequency which can cause poor Wifi connectivity and intermittent drop out. If you are running Wifi even if it's a wireless bridge, that would be the first hing I would consider changing. A hardwired connection for the Apex is always the most reliable connection. An easy and effective workaround if you can't get a cable to the Apex would be a Powerline Ethernet adapter. They send the network signal through the AC power outlets and are far more reliable as far as constant connectivity goes than a Wifi connection.

That's some good info. I upgraded to the new system right when it came out. My old one I ran wired because wifi wasnt built in. I've been running the new one wireless because it was so easy but if that's the cause it's a pretty easy fix to my stress.

+1

I have a Foscam IP camera pointed at my tank at all times for reassurance on the rare occasion that my Apex loses its connection with Fusion. :)

In most cases when you have a disconnect from Fusion your Apex will follow its current programming that you have setup. There are a lot of customers that don't use Fusion and the controller does just fine.

I'd bet that solves your issue. I've seen the same issues with the Classic Apex and even the new one both via the built in Wifi and using a Wifi bridge. I've been in IT for 30 years and have learned over the years that Wifi is about the most unreliable connection for devices that are mission critical or require consistent up time. Switch your Apex over to wired and disable the Wifi connection through the network settings screen and the issues will go away.

I had that issue with the classic. When I went to a Tlink range extender it got worse then with a normal gaming adapter. It would go down within 24 hrs of resetting it.

I ended up moving my router closer to the apex and hard wiring it. I have not had a drop since that change on Fusion.

I connect my "classic", orange sticker Apex with an Apple Airport Express that extends the network from my Apple Airport Extreme wirelessly. I have never once lost fusion. Running for over a year now.
