Neptune Systems Apex w/ WiFI - First time buyer Query

For Control I am planning on purchasing an Neptune Systems Apex with WIFI but have many unanswered questions regarding initial investment. I've searched but all I've found is "how good it is for controlling things like temperate and turning of lights when the temperature goes off", etc. Nothing about the actual setup. Maybe I've just not searched enough. Maybe Apex has gotten rid of all the extra add on items as I've seen people with multiple boxes.

My questions - What additional items will I need if I purchase below item to test below parameters?

Neptune Systems Apex with WIFI $799

Bare minimum I would need is:
1. PH
2. Temperature
3. salinity
4. ORP
5.Wireless control, alerts.

Everything you are wanting comes from the New Model APEX out of the box. There is a learning curve, as is with all controllers, but once you get the hang of it you will love it.

All you need to do is make sure you have enough switchable outlets.
You can add more gadgets later but this will get you the bare necessities of what you are looking for.

Thanks, I just watched BRS video for 20mins and pretty much explained everything. I guess Apex has made some major changes resulting in far less clutter and probes being plugged into the side. This Unit will be a good starting point.

Just make sure if you're connecting via wi-fi that your adapter radio is set to WPA2-AES and not the hybrid AES/TKIP setting. TKIP can cause issues that will drive you nuts.

+1 on the router settings. Nowhere in the instructions did it tell me that and I was stuck for 3 hours trying to get it to connect.

Nor does it tell you to calibrate your probes in the "advanced" tab. Don't make that mistake either.

Do yourself a favor and buy the probe rack as well. $40 but it's worth it, and remember one hole is bigger for the temp probe, don't try to peel off the rubber tip to fit inside the smaller holes.

I have read stray voltage will cause your salinity probe to misread. Invest in a grounding wire.

I have a 24g tank and due to fluctuations being easier to creep in and the fact that I like to see what's going on, made me buy it.

I had 2nd thoughts until for the last week my temps had been slowly creeping up. I mean slowly. I could see the graph and it helped me figure out my skimmer is the culprit, so now the skimmer is on a heat timer. Once it gets to 78, it shuts off. If goes below 76, it kicks in.

So far so good, but this was just last night as well.

Like you've already been told, the new Apex does everything you want right out of the box. I know it's a lot, but if you have the money just buy the new one up-front. The physical design is ugly and awkward, but functionally it's incredible and if you price-out what it would cost to have all of the same features in an Apex Classic, the price will not look so bad. Not to mention that it does in one unit what you would need 3+ pieces to do with the Apex Classic.
